Well a guy managed to nail me yesterday in the parking lot. Insurance is gonna need to do something. No one is hurt, but he pulled into me, then backed into the car beside him. Yesterday coming home I noticed the headlight switch wasn't working right, plug is burnt up. I have the headlights on relays, I'm guessing old age did it in.
Ouch Dusty! I'm not sure what he is going to say about not being able to see you, or hear your truck for that matter. Let us know what happens as I would be curious to hear if they don't total out your truck for that damage. Bed, paint, can get expensive pretty quickly.
Look what happened to my 66 Mustang yesterday, was at a cruise-in at a retirement home in Lillington, and a sinkhole opened up underneath my front wheel. We had to get 2 jacks and alternate back and forth until we got it high enough to slide a 2x6 under the tire. Believe it or not, no damage. Also at this cruise-in was a nice 71 F100, I was planning to find the owner and talk to him about NCFTE but after the excitement with my sinkhole that slipped my mind.
Sitting on subframe rail behind tire, and front crossmember. I wasn't sure the 2x6 could hold the weight of a car but it did. Now I don't think I'd put my F100 on that. Unbelievable! This sinkhole was about 5 feet deep. Ford truck fans would all love this red & white F100. Short bed, 351W, air conditioning. Clean as could be!
Great looking 66, John...
Glad it didn't hurt that beauty...
First time having a sinkhole at one of your car shows.
We walked the area and found another soft spot, possibly a second sinkhole. The man who runs the place apologized several times, but he had no way of knowing. They drove over it with riding mowers the day before to get it ready for the old cars and never encountered any problems.
Here is a walk-around video one of my friends did of me and all the gawkers. Video quality is pretty bad but you get the idea.
Man you guys have had a lot going on. Glad to hear no damage to that beautiful 66 Mustang John, but sorry to hear about the damage to your truck Dustin. I won't repost it here, but I've been busy on my truck. Quick run down: Got new motor to rebuild but block was cracked, so rebuilding top end of my motor, got a bunch of shiny new parts, (Champion aluminum radiator, aluminum intake manifold, new 4 bbl card, aluminum water pump, and hooker headers), and am restoring the old stuff as I go, will take heads to machine shop, fix up under the hood as much as I can now that motor is down to a short block and I have the old ac and heater box out, then begin rebuilding everything. Several pics of what's been happening on my build thread.
little late to the thread but glad to see your stang didnt go the way of the corvette museum... thats the downside to sink holes... you just never know when theyre going to open up or where..
Hey Sparky, my feeling was that it might be hurricane related, all that rain soaking in and washing away from underneath. It was pretty close to the ditch and directly above a pipe. Look kinda upper right in this pic, you can see the PVC pipe. And then sorta below that a hole; maybe that hole leads to the ditch and this was a way for soaked ground to drain and with that much rain maybe eventually took a bunch of dirt with it. Again, just my theory!
