I'm looking up that ForScan now.
It sounds like just what I've been after and at the right sort of price too.
I'm not cheap, I'm just unable to fund myself at the level I'd like to be...
Its a dang good program for what it is. On my powerstroke it can be left connected while you drive to monitor injection pressures, boost, torque converter slip, trans temp and all kinds of stuff. My truck has several hundred sensors that can be checked or monitored simultaneously, it also shows live data and records it for comparison after tuning or repair work is done.
They had a hardwired cellphone, cb among other things in mine, wiring for days.
gotta love gadget crazy folks. I got lucky with my truck, the PO was a retired air force officer and was **** as h@#$ about doing stuff right. All the aftermarket stuff was professionally installed.
got the driveshaft ears cleaned up.. for the new ujoints...
little before and after shot there
annoying part is i did get the u-joints in.. but cant put the retainer clips on 2 of them... even miced them and none of them got bent in the press from trying to get the old ones out... but cant get the last clip on 2 different joints to seat....
Can you get them started then tap gently on the clip with a small hammer and socket that will fit snug in the bore? I’ve had to do that before when one of the caps wasn’t quite straight or seated all the way. The small socket will help square the cap up in the bore

nope... its like theyre sitting half over the lip... cant get the cap to go any further down to get the clip in... and before you ask its not a flopped over needle issue either... as i did have that happen and the cap sat way higher...
Try the socket and mallet trick. Almost promise it’ll work. Those clips have sharp square edges and very tight clearances. If they’re not perfectly square you’re not getting them in.
tried one on top of the clip and smacked it a couple times with the 12 oz hammer.. but still didnt seat... ive busted caps before going too hard with them... trying not to right now...

I’ve also used the same size socket on both sides of the joint and put it in a vice to get the caps in, this way you don’t risk breaking the ears off. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what to do. I do know we have one hell of a drivetrain/drive line shop in concord but that’d be a haul for ya. The place is “overdrive rebuilds” I don’t have their number right off but maybe tomorrow you can look them up and give them a call, maybe they can point you in the right direction.
best i could do for pictures.... the other snap rings the same way.. just didnt bother taking a pic of it... did once without the flash and one with...
Got the snap rings in finally... just used the 5lb mini persuader sledge and it popped in...
broke out the helper wrench to get the bolts tightened back down... why cant they ever give you enough room to get a Torque Wrench in there... they always put the bolts in the oddest spots...
then put both shafts back in... i pre-greased the front and rear joints since they were completely together but saved the middle one till it was bolted in with the retainers...
also discovered it was 4 years ago today that i had done the ones in the front driveshaft lol...
yes and no... id be happier with the non-greasables from spicer that were in it originally... but lack of job and financial income dictated what i bought...
I was going to ask if you used spicer joints, that’s about all we ever use on the big trucks. I was neck deep in a 3406B caterpillar engine today. It’s been a good engine, I’ve managed to stretch it out to 1.4 million miles so it time for a rebuild. I’m going to do the work myself but dang the cat parts are high.
