All is well since the oil change. I noticed my EGT are down as well at idle. No more contribution codes. No detectable miss/stumble at idle. Put about 75 miles on it today no hiccups. Getting about 17mpg highway. I suspect it’ll go back up after the engine loosens up. I used to hit about 18 before.

It wasn’t quite warmed up fully during that picture she usually runs 192-196f.

update: 450 mile trip to Az only averaged 16mpg doing 75mph in the excursion. No contribution codes or funky idle issues. Seems to be running well. Hope to see mileage go back up toward 18 like before once she gets some miles on her. I’m

550 miles on the new oil change. No codes running strong. I noticed today that my oil level is at the minimum level on dipstick and it was mid level when I filled it. It was also hot when I changed the oil and it’s been sitting now for about a day and a half. Hopefully it’s not a sign of oil consumption issues. Gonna top it off with a quart and see how that does. No other issues to report.

Are you going to do (or have you done) the ring to cylinder break in (mating) procedure I posted about? Mine uses no oil, my friends 6.4 that I did the same break-in on used No oil (at least up until she sold it)...

Glad to hear it's running well...

I did it on some empty back roads: 1st gear selected, moderate acceleration to redline, lift throttle completely until truck just about stops, repeat 10x or more in a row. But I did wait to do this until just under a thousand miles and had driven fairly mildly to that point. Once I did the "break-in" I changed oil and filter... Hope yours wears in nicely - lordy you have earned it with the effort you've put in...

Good luck!

I miss my Ranger, too.

1987 STX Extended Cab with the 2.9L. Exactly like this one.

Mine was the 1988 2.9L V6 Long Bed Standard Cab.
It was a metallic dark gun metal grey. It was a color that I
have only seen a few times.

No problem! You have a lot going on there, Sean... I wish I could blame my memory lapses on something

On edit: I too owned a '80s Ranger 4x4! It had 4.10s and was a super cab - what a little workhorse!

Imagine that - Ford Truck Enthusiasts!

I miss my 6.9L even though it used 2 quarts of oil every 5,000 miles and didn't have 4WD.
