@TooManyToys.
is there any issues that you know of running the ZD-13 glow plug in my 03? I hear it’s about 1.2mm shorter to account for the later model piston bowl differences. Will it perform the same? I’m finding they are actually cheaper
also do you have a recommendation for the motor mounts when reinstalling the engine? I think my options are put them on once the engine is over the cradle, put them on now and try to slip them into the cradle, or put them in the cradle loose and try to set the engine on them and run the bolts in.
I know of no issues and haven't tried it, but I've thought it would be a good way to get around the problem of too long of GP.
I left the motor mounts off so I would have more leeway in the vertical movement to bolt up the trans. First I went low to install the up pipes. Then I went high so it was easier to bolt up the A/C compressor, and finally staying high, I slid in the motor mounts, getting the crossmember studs in place (no nuts). Then lowered, working the engine horizontal to line up with the mounts. Once the mounts were bolted to the block, came down probably 1/2" to load the mounts and install the nuts.

Thanks, Rob. I still need to buy the porting tool, and I'd still like to try doing this at home first rather that make it a cross borders event with customs.
Glad to see everything has come together so well and thank you for posting the photos of the remote ICP plumbing kit. Seeing these photos and the discussion last week actually made me pull my old notes out regarding this. I had originally machined an adapter for original ICP location to a female NPT thread.I need to look at the other half of the adapter.
Feels good to have it back in the truck Turbocharger back in its home Wrapped my new up pipes hopefully it’ll make a dent in the heat load at the rear of the engine.
I forgot I removed the factory down pipe when the engine was out and now it’s almost impossible to get it back in. Ordered a 3.5” down pipe aftermarket deal to fix that since they are two piece and I’m not pulling this engine back out.
Did you get a single piece or a 2 piece down pipe? I put a 4" w piece in my truck back when I changed the exhaust system
Having a band clamp halfway was the smartest thing I did. It slipped right in and no leaks.

yeah mbrp 2 piece up pipe 3.5” should slide right in. I may even wrap the first 24” to help with heat. That’s what I liked about the stock unit it had a nice heat shield thingy ford covered it in. The lower the under hood temps the better.
now to find some Freon and a vacuum pump. I may have a local garage here just vacuum it and recharge it. Freon seems much cheaper in bulk. My excursion is pig it holds 68 ounces of r134a
Make sure that the clutch coil does not get any power before you get it charged.
Also moisture and PAG react and create bad stuff. So the faster you get it done the better.

isn’t there also a low pressure switch in the system preventing the clutch coil from energizing ?

At some point Ford moved to a single ac freon pressure sensor and let the computer control the clutch based off the pressure...... Instead of both low and high pressure cut off (2 wire) switches. Anybody know what year that was, or if it was just on certain vehicles?

mines a 2003 excursion and it’s purely analog controls.
