Thanks amigo, I too like how they came out, but re-chroming was not cheap... $360 for the pair.... but none are available any more... I've looked for several years, before deciding to spend the $$$ hope I never have to do it again...

Love the "Made In U.S.A." sticker left on there. SS bolts not a bad idea.

Just getting the SS bolts down here, in South Baja, requires a trip 1000 miles to the border and 1000 miles back... shipping them is not an option, as some customs puke would have my nice bolts, and I would pay the duty on the empty box.. if I even got the box at all... so.. Next trip North, and I will bring back new SS bolts... nice idea. Meanwhile, I will remove these coat them in phosphoric acid, turn 'em black, and go with that until the next trip North... Maybe in March/April... or when the fishing slows down.. until then, I am catching marlin & tuna...

You can use my home Phoenix address for a parts drop off spot any time you wish Russ. Unless there is someone closer than Phoenix.

Those were black............at one time. But like all black oxide it fades and rusts in the sun.

Hmm, I just run down the street...............oh, wait. Ya, well that might work for me......

Sometimes I hate where I live, but once I read stories like this I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! Car part stores every corner, Summit Racing is like 20 minutes away, got a dozen drag strips from 1/2 hr to 3 hrs away in every direction. Life is good.

Mil Gracias El Rey.

For the past few years, we have been flying to the States, as the trip to the border has not gotten easier, road or traffic wise. Seems that the closer we get to the border, the stupid drivers increase doubly by the mile. The first 800 miles all seems tranquil, but the last 200 the drivers seem to have lost all patience, and do things no sane person would do. I am going to die some day, but am in no rush to be first at the scene of the accident.

Thanks again, and if we drive again, you may see us passing through... we will stop to just say Hello, and see if I can get a 'Dilly Dilly' from the King...

Cool story to your truck and glad to see you fixing it up!

I haven't read ahead 15 pages yet to see if you replaced your wheel or resolved the egged out bolt holes yet from the mag-lugs.

I had an aluminum wheel with a similar issue and I ended up having a machine shop install an insert in the wheel that converted that wheel to the conical style lug nut instead of the mag style.

You might want to consider it if the rest of the wheel is still serviceable....
Machine shop charged me $50 per wheel to ream it out at the proper bolt spacing rqd.

Thanks amigos, for all the helpful suggestions, and ideas. I appreciate it.. Starting with

Freight Train, : I am sure each of us live where we are most comfortable, and for economic benefits too. I know that Mexico is not for everyone, and only for a vacation for some, but being a serious Marlin and deep sea fisherman, Baja is an Olympic Gold area for 20 miles on either side of my home. True, it is a challenge to find some things, some of the time, but that is the price I pay to live where the big fish visit..

To Ks Highboy, true, black cap screws would look nice...or black allens...

To El Rey... what can I say to the King? other than Thanks Very Much, and Mil Gracias amigo... I will find the SS bolts when I am North next time... Maybe at the end of March, or Early April, when the VA is giving me a new Knee... Hooray!!!!..

And to my Nuke buddy: I may have done my last Outage amigo... at least until I get a new knee and can walk well again. I've limped since Vietnam, and it is time to rebuild the original equipment... way too many miles on a wobbly knee, and I am just plane tired of falling down.

And finally, to McLeod, where is the machine shop you had that work done, and would they sell me the inserts? I could use them on my wheels, which are still OK, but I am very careful putting the lug nuts on and tighten them in a cross pattern with 4 opposing done first... I would love the inserts, and perhaps could find a machine shop down here to do my wheels.... Great idea amigo... thanks mucho...

Any competent machine shop that does automotive work should be able to help you out.

But first, after studying the measurements given for the inserts, determine if the damaged part of your wheel will be eliminated with them.

There are several suppliers of the inserts, but I personally like Prestige Wheel. The owner Ron is very personable and a wealth of information.
They sell on EBAY too, which is where that ^^^ picture came from.

Determine what size you need (I would order a few spares, they're not that expensive) and take them along with the wheels to your local machinist.

Great deals from prestigewheelaccessories | eBay Stores

Look for a machinist that knows how to confirm the bolt pattern needed. You want it to be as accurate as possible.
