1972 Highboy Build Progress
Now that I found it I will post pics of the progress. I appreciate any input as I will do most of the work myself.
I'm going to post some pics. Then a few started questions. Thanks - Shawn
Way overdue for a hot bath!
4x4 works / Engine runs.
Needs a lot of TLC. Brakes (MC I think), Tail lights work and one front light. All other lights are a no go. Timing is off I think.
This is the truck on a hunting trip in 1974 Canada
My Grandfather is on the right
Guess someone thought I should be covered in red LOL. That's my Grandfather on the right of course. He was a WW2 Navy gunner. Not sure if I have the term correct but when this all came together I actually saw the truck for the first time in over 20 years on Veteran's Day and bought it that day. I even put Veterans Day on the Bill of Sale. That would have put a smile on him! It was a long hunt for the truck as well. Took several years of trying off and on.

Hang in there. He will call you back. Might not be until tomorrow morning, but he will. Been there, done that myself a time or two. Unless the holiday gets in the way.

Happy Thanksgiving Bud.
Happy Thanksgiving to all - Shawn
I will need to replace both inner fenders and possibly the drivers side outside fender. I found OEM inner fenders and fender for drivers side. Had a guy tell me (who sold the parts to me) I can do it, just will take some time. Thoughts? Links? Instructions? Happy Thanksgiving to all - Shawn
Here's the order I recommend. Of course bag and tag your hardware. I also highly recommend taking photos for future reference. Do not rely on your memory because you will forget. Alternatively, reinstall the bolts in the J-nut or U-nut from which they were removed.
Also, if the body panels are decently aligned , drill 1/8-inch holes along the mating flanges and use the drill bit to index the panels during reassembly... a picture is provided below for reference! Drill the hole in an inconspicuous place!!! If the part has left/right and up/down adjustability, drill two holes! i sealed the holes with small wads of 3M strip caulk:
- Front bumper
- Grill inserts (and unplug the headlights and turn signals) (70-72).
- Headlight doors and headlamps.
- Grill shell assembly with upper valance (three bolts at the fender, three up inside the corner of the fenders, two at the hood latch, two on either side of the radiator from the inside the engine compartment,, likely more.)
- Lower gravel shield... two or three bolts on each side attaching to the fenders Three along the upper edge accessed from underneath.
- Unbolt and remove the hood from the hinges (a two-man job!)
- Hood hinges
... that should get you far enough.
To remove a fender, some bolts are up inside the front wheel well and one or two underneath .. forward of the rocker. There is one bolt behind the fender.. it is accessed through the forward door jamb where the courtesy light switch is positioned!! A ratcheting combo wrench would be convenient.
