12 gauge wire is too small for a starter. Screwdriver is better because it is larger diameter, less voltage drop with that huge surge in current.
When you had someone jump you, did you connect the jumper cables to your battery? If you can, connect the black to your batter and use the red to touch the starter side of the solenoid. This should get the truck to start.
That red wire wrapped around the fuse is a little sketch.... what is that for?
To test the power to the fuse panel, you should be able to light up the tester with one side of the fuse holders. Other side of the tester should be grounded to cab somewhere. Key should be in on position for this test.
Looks like there should be a fuse link between the alternator and the positive terminal of the solenoid. That is something else to check. If that blew, it may have killed power to the cab.
From the solenoid, it looks like a yellow wire, that will go to the ignition switch in the cab, a black/yellow stripe goes to fuses for the cigarette lighter and the flashers. These are fuses F4 and F5. You should have power here if there is power to the battery. There is a black/orange stripe wire that goes to the headlights. That should also have power. These wires are all spliced near the fuse panel according to the reference website (S-4).
I think you are right though. Sounds like something near the solenoid.
The power wire goes to the solenoid. You need to find the wire that takes 12V to the fuse box and trace it through the wiring harness.
Depending on where you grounding the light, you could have power to the fuse box, but no ground to the cab. 12V with no ground will do the same thing as no voltage and a good ground when it comes to the test light.
I'll try to keep helping, but I have to get home from work. Responses will get more delayed. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Maybe post a photo of the solenoid so the wiring can be seen clearly.

Sounds good. Thank you for helping. I have someone to pull me back to the house. Will deal with traffic. Once I'm at the house will post a good pic of the solenoid.
According to the schematic I posted in post #591, the yellow/black wire from the battery cable terminal on the solenoid ends up powering the ignition switch, headlight switch, and 2 fuses. Check that connection at the solenoid. In your pic I see a non- Ford gray wire where the yellow/black one should be. And what is that white wire for?
