Here's what I found: The oil was leaking thru those top 2 bolt holes in the back of block - At the bottom (side) of those threads rotted out or never there. They look clean down in the holes. I can not see rust or rot. When I put my finger over the oil hole in block it does Not leak oil in the water passages. It just needs thread sealer and correct torque. On the torque, I found specs that say 80-90, 100, 125, 140 ft-lb. Have new gaskets and thread sealer on way. Thanks for tips.
With oiled threads the bolts gets the lower Tq of 80 an dry 90lbs. Some Tq ratings for new bolts to stretch..
Need some help finding a part. The red plastic Ford Dana 44HD hub dial. It broke... look close at the pic and you will see. It's toast. Would like to find OEM if possible because the other side is fine. If I can not find OEM what are my best options?
Drivers side... not sure how it broke but it's toast.

What is Molly XL grease? Book says to use Molly XL grease on the parts. I do not recall from b4 but sure I bought something. Remind me on putting the hub back together what grease do I use and do I put a little gear oil in there? Thxs!
You can still get Moly grease but seems to be much less common than before.
In fact I just bought some made by Motorcraft- XG-1-C - Premium Long Life Grease.
It was about $7.50 for the tube at my local Ford store.
XL may have been a part number that has been superseded by improved or changed versions, but this I do not know for certain.
on my '74 highboy, I used to use Termalene grease - It's immune to water. I once went "fording" down to the sea shore to my sister's house after a hurricane came through. Water was up the flooboards on my highboy. Salt water too... a few months later, I took everything apart to do the brakes, and water came running out when I took the hubs off. Grease still good, and bearings were pristine.
Hey amigo, I have the same hubs on my 68, and just rebuilt them after lots of miles. I found new all aluminum hub centers (way stronger than the old plastic), and just as pretty. I got them from either Montana 4x4, or off on Evilbay, I cannot remember which. Also, I use marine grease in them, which is also waterproof, like the pricy greases, and seems to work just fine. I use 50W in my NP 435 trans, which is recommended by New Process, who made the trans... and I use 85/90 W hypoid gear oil in the frond differential, rear differential, and the transfer case, all of which were made by Spicer Dana, (not Ford), and that is the S/D recommendation for years for the Dana 44HD, the Spicer Dana #24 TC, and the S/D 60 rear differential... I have had my old truck since Dec. 1969, and it now has 711,000 miles, so who am I to argue with history? Run what you want, listen the the experts (who usually disagree), but consider experience..
