So, did you guys pick up on the fact that I put the engine in but still had to put headers on? Well yesterday the light came on in my head. I had to pull the engine out to drop the passerger side header in and for that matter the drivers side. So today I removed what was installed, pulled the engine and dropped it back it. Bolted the bell housing back on. And as you can see the left side is on. Starter is back on as well.
Looks good. Keep up this pace and you will be driving next week!
Thxs fe390! Any tips on setting the timing and the "dial in" b4 I start up for break in? Looks like the best way to break in the engine is to start it set the timing fast and hit the road driving it for 25 minutes between 2k and 2,500 rpm (not letting it fall under 1,500 or higher than 3k) and during that time to down shift as well to use the rpm.
It will have the Holley 4160 / 600 CFM for now.
Already have the distributor in but read about priming the engine with oil. Engine has oil from the build but if I prim it I will remove the distributor. Is it worth pulling and the time?
YES!
Leave the valve covers off temporarily. Pull the Dizzy. Use a 1/2" drill if you have one. A 3/8" drill will work but it won't like how hard it's going to have to work. Spin the oil pump driveshaft counter clockwise until you see oil at the valvetrain. Plop the Dizzy back in with #1 cylinder at TDC on it's compression stroke. Rotor pointing at #1 terminal. Have a timing light hooked up before you fire it. Once fired up and at a fast idle as you mentioned, set the timing. I wouldn't drive it until after the 30 minute break in. After the break in lower the idle back down to normal. Check timing again just in case the Dizzy's mechanical advance was kicking in when you set it with fast idle.

Right on. With the fan shroud, I need to find one. Jeff, is it D3TZ-8146-C? It has a special fan from factory. I will post a pic later and measure. Supper cooling AC 4x4. Where can I find the shroud and bolts?

I don't think you want a D3TZ8146C.
71/72 F100/250(4x4), 360, with or without A/C, Standard cooling and Extra cooling...D3TZ8146C. (replaced C8TZ8146K) 27 1/4" across and 15" high.
C8TZ8146K was marked C8TA8146S.
D3TZ8146C was marked D3TA8146DA

71/72 F100 (4X2) and F250, 360/390, with "Super Extra Cooling", with or without A/C....C7TZ8146B. 21 3/8" High and 27 1/8" across. Which was marked C7TA8146H,D2TA8146HA,D3TA8146JA.
Make sure you have high zinc break in oil to start with. I would not drive it just run it at about 1500rpm for the recommended time the cam maker says. Once break in is done. Change the oil!
Good thinking amigo. Touching the pan isn't that bad, as it is only at the lip where the pan meets the block.. wouldn't hurt to try and bend it a bit away at that point, and heat shield wrap the lower part... certainly can't hurt a bit..
See the wire in the close up pic above... where the one wire is hanging. What is that and where should it go? I'm back on the truck. And wanting to double check my wires as I approach 1st fire up and break-in.

Looks like it was painted at some point in time. If the wire under that paint is Blue then it would go to a carb throttle solenoid. IF the truck was equipped with one.
I'm trying to trace the wires and make sure everything is correct. See that top wire in the set? It must have been hot or something b/c the wire is bare. I will go thru the manual tomorrow to see what I can find but does anyone have an idea? Thxs
