Those transmissions are incredibly tough. All those missed shifts over the years and so many learning to drive trucks with them and the guts always look very good considering..... I think the gears were made of kryptonite. Crab looks delicious!
I was able to find all new gears for mine. P.T.O looks similar too. You can still get the seals for it so be careful when popping those out. The numbers are on the face.
i will be able to reuse gears from my spare. the seal only has a S stamped on it,you wouldn,t happen to have the number! my PTO is jammed, i suppose the aluminuim case seized on the shafts. i will put the block plate instead ,and see to the PTO later. what oil do you use i see they say to put 600 weight oil. i suppose it helps to stop leaks especially since theres no front seal.

You say that yours is an aluminum case? Guess it is not the same as mine. There is a transmission for sale locally that has a pto on it on CL.
Be careful with the 600 weight designation. A few places sell 600W gear oil, but most people use a conventional 75, 90, 140 or multiviscosity type. There is an issue with newer lubes eating brass synchros, but unless you have a magic 4-speed that is not a concern. Search the forum for info on the correct gear lube. You have to take the PTO seals to a shop that sells seals and match them to something they have. I tried to purchase seals in advance for the mechanic who rebuilt my tranny and got nowhere using the PTO manufacturer info. Good luck.
Gary, I had chipped gears (and lots of noise in 3rd) in my tranny from previous owners, but my long learning curve is probably taking a toll on the gears from the spare tranny.

It took me years, but I find I can go through the gears quietly now. I have a couple of boxes in my attic that comprise an entire 4 speed crash box in NOS parts. Bought 20 tears ago from Joblot, Macs, Bob Selzam and others. I never built it because I got divorced and sold the 38 tonner.
little steps! got my tires mounted.
got my transmission back together waiting on seal. put all the gears back in my spare one so parts don,t drag around.
neat little greaser thing a ma jig, gonna have to make a hose old one rotten.
still waiting on my engine ,didn,t phone the guy been busy! life gets in the way mix up plans sometimes! got a good afternoon in finished cleaning parts flywheel ,pressure plate got a new clutch disc.lower bell housing boy was the dirt cook ,hard to clean! washed and prep the old water pumps.
found a crack on oil filter drain plug.
seal i got for the transmission.
got alot of time to clean intake, been on and of over a few weeks. advance pipe was plug tight ,and so was the pcv ( i think its a pcv) it written on the pcv donaldson clean every 10000 miles.
Nice!! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who keeps a tube of grease on the bench and trims down the tube, then puts the lid back on. If you misplace the plastic cap, a model T hubcap works great too.
thanks on the offer joe, maybe! i forgot to take a picture of mine,i got it to turn. i was planning to tear it apart this summer ,in hope of rebuilting it. i will let you know, and i will post a picture of mine to compare.
found my brake hose adapters, they were in my stash on the farm!!!
phone my engine guy yesterday. he replied you told me you were not in a hurry! he acid dip it and got 44 of the 48 studs out. thats when his tool broke ,he was waiting on snap on for warrenty.
Good news on the brake adapters! You would have been SOL till you found some. Interesting PCV valve on that intake. I've never seen a setup like that on these engines. I'll have to take a look at my truck to see if that port even exists on my engine.

I had one of those transmissions behind a 371 Olds with 3 deuces in my first jitney I built when I was 15. It never missed a beat and I got that wonderful straight cut gear growl as a bonus.
Guy's,
The GL-4 rated 80/90 and 140 is whats recommended for the tranny's and rear ends with brass/bronze parts in them. That's what I had to put in the rear end of my Model T's and I put it in the rear end of the '41.
Hard to find as most places. Got mine at Napa.
hi guys! no motor yet but he said it should be ready this month. i sent my radiator to a radiator shop (they are getting hard to find with all the aluimium and plastic radiators). it leaked on the top tank. guy by phone said if it were mine i would remove tank to repair and rod it. he phone today and said the heat from welding the tank, damaged the welds on the tubes. so its leaking at the tubes and not repareable. he wants 800 for a new core. i see on mac website 198 for an alumium one. its seems like a better deal! i would liked to keep the brass one for looks but thats alot of money. anybody tried them, they should be good heat transfer. with my engine budget doubling i sure don,t want it to heat!!!
