finally got my engine!!! got it installed in truck, been hooked up on pcv. i think i figured it out. my engine a c69a and theres a hole in the front right side of oïl pan. there must of been some kind of filter or breather on the oïl pan. if i understand right the oïl pans hole is the inlet for air, which circulates throught the engine and out throught the pcv. pcv is hooked to intake vaccum so it pulls the vapours into the intake.

what should i do with the gas pump tube and shaft. i will be running a electrical gas pump. do i just remove the rod and cap the hole ,since i have what looks like a pcv system. i like a clean looking engine, that looks simple!

i,m not sure but from what i read, i think i should shorten the fuel pump push rod. so the camshaft can,t work it .with no rod i can lose oïl throught the hole. the push rod has a sort of umbrella on it. some guys say to plug the hole. kind of glad i read this ,i was planning on removing pushrod! it can lower oïl pressure!!!
anybody have any experience with removing mecanical fuel pump!

From what I have read, many people just leave the pushrod dancing up and down. It can't go anywhere, and I know without it, oil pressure is lost. I also think that with the hole plugged, some of the oil supply down the tube to te timing gears is diminished. Engine looks great, and old school builder ground the valve stems the way Henry intended!

thanks gary! i was afraid of having a noise, from pushrod dancing around! i think the guy knows his stuff,he,s into racing. 1/4 mile races,he wanted me to but a double carburator intake and some fancies! i told him i wanted a simple reliable motor!
he had a small block gm boat engine from the sixties, which was set up for reverse rotation propeller. it had the transmission on the front of the motor really odd!

So in other words he figured out how to get the distributor up where a normal guy can reach it. As for the pushrod, maybe a coil spring around the rod up against a cap off plate? The stock pump has a very stiff spring, so this wouldn't cause excess wear.

I removed my mechanical fuel pump and blocked it with a chrome thing that fits a 350 Chevy. Perfect match for a the 6, not sure on the V8.

But did you block off the pushrod hole with something? I am quite certain there would be some loss of oil pressure without either the pushrod or something else in that bushing.

The pump on the 6 runs directly off the cam so there is no push rod.

Thanks for that info. I just rec'd my ring gear for my H six. Now I can play with it and see how it runs. Not even sure what I'll put it in. I just like flathead engines.

I looked in my service manual and don't see any reference to this hole or some sort of reason for it. On the left side is the return from the oil filter line.
The manual says Ford, Lincoln & Mercury, 42-48 cars and trucks and even has a few pictures of a COE.
