Bernette, I just got 2 sets of king pins for projects. 50 bucks a set. It is so easy now. Newold is making a really good point. I ream them with a dowel slotted for sandpaper and chuck the dowel in a drill. Hardest part is getting old ones out, but it always happens. Just sayin like Newold, it's never so easy as right now.
john if you were close they would be yours. parker757 i will be passing an order pretty soon. if my memory serve me right the part number ends with 3111. i,m not sure on size maybe yours are bigger than my 2 ton! if your in no real hurry i will get this sorted out in a few weeks. and i can post pictures with measurement.

That would be great thank you. Sorry I wasn't trying to jack the post. Your doing a great job on this old ford.
now i know why it was leaning, leafs are thicker on right side. i found it strange it had 1 extra leaf on the left, and was still leaning to the left.
Now that's a new one on me. I would think the thicker leafs are the stock ones. I wonder what the thin ones are from. Tonner? Could be almost anything. I have been known to use stock top leafs with the eyes and use whatever seems good stacked up below, like from an upside down chev station wagon in the woods.
got alot of stuff done! doesn,t really show! i had bought a old frame it was a newer truck. cab supports were different axle is about 1 inch wider. i think i did good with my frame, it cost me 250 dollars delivered home. i managed to make 2 spring packs , i removed the 4 spring hangers. i replaced my drag link tube ,and used 1 tie rod. my spring shackels were done, they were good on that frame. plus the wheel bearings mine were done . and the pitman arm the ball on mine was half wore out. i might be using the axle because my king pin loose is in the axle not the bushings,1 inch shouldn,t change much! i now have spare backing plates, with brakes ,2 main leafs and a bunch of spring leafs. it had a different hydrovac system .pictures to come!
thats were i had slack in my kingpin, the bushing are tight they must of been replaced at some point. not sure yet if i will use the wider axle or get a sleeve made!
i got the engine out ,will get into that next winter.
started emptying cab over the week nights.
my spring hangers got to bolt on frame now.
getting frame back out i got the rear 2 speed axle to.with 5 stud lug nuts ,instead of my 6 stud hub on mine. that will be for a later project my rear wheel bearing and seals are all new and packed with fresh grease
Sounds like you got a lot of good stuff for 250.00! I would go with the 1" wider axle if it's in good shape. Keep up the good work. Does having the engine out til next winter mean you can't go for a spin this summer? I would think so. I don't have the patience you have to hang around and wait through your busy season. I know the customer always comes first, but when I'm deep into an old ford truck, sometimes they come second. On the other hand you might be able to retire some day. At this rate I won't....
no retirement plan! if i can i will work, but at a slower pace. working keeps you healthy, and chase any bad ideas! and when you work you don,t spend any money.plan is to repair motor next winter,i will need alot of help. not quit sure what to do ,motor runs, good oil pressure may be a little hot at idle. hard to start in cold weather. i was planning on resealing it to stop oil leaks, and change the water pumps.i should check compression to see exactly what i have. i was hoping on not doing a complete motor job. but if i have to go there i might send block to a shop.

I used front springs from a 47 1/2 ton when I built the 1/4 eliptics on the rear of my hot rod. It sat just a bit too high and dropping one leaf was too much. I had a set of front springs from a 39 IH 1/2 ton and those leaves were about 1 1/2 times as thick. Solution, drop 2 Ford leaves and add one IH leaf.
