been repairing my transmission cover. and while at it i needed to know what kind of hole for pto lever. so while at it i decided to check my pto,the one came with truck was aluiminuim, and the one i got with hoist is cast. the aluininuim one has seals, and the cast one is a rope seal. i would like to install the cast one with a seal from the aluiminuim. i think i can fit it,with a sleeve! but i can,t find the seal or any numbers. i would like pto to be leak free,a leaking pto means low oïl in transmission.
I asked for help with PTO seal part numbers a couple years ago and the best advice I received was to take the seal (or dimensions if you don't have the seals) to a supplier of seals and they will match one up. Good luck. I left the originals in place at the time.
i think joe the 6 bolt gaskets are standard for a long time. i ask for help on 48 and earlyer forum and i don,t have the right measurement for the outside diameter. its the smaller end that goes Inside case.
still waiting for the pto ,i might of found a seal! i got a few things done today finished and painted transmission cover, assembled the fan hub. got a new firewall padding installed and started assembling trottle and choke lever. and assembled my hanger bearing new bearing and rubber isolator.
i got 3 questions.
what was inbetween the trottle and choke buttons
where does the speedometer cable pass
would somebody know what lenght the alternator belt would be. i think i got the wrong pulley on alternator its narrow.
well maybe 4 questions ,is there different belt widths. is it possible a truck and big truck had different belts.
I always convert to 12 v alternator. I always buy the wide belt pulley (5/8) from speedway. Everything about the conversion is bulletproof. Just remember the Bosch 12 v super coil and the runtz gauge reducers. Golden.
You could make your own gasket for the pto with some gasket material and a ball peen hammer: hold the material on the trans case and tap out the shape of the mount on the gasket material. This action will cut through the material and you have made a gasket. The middle hole is for the last hole of 3 on the dash is for the light switch. The speedo cable goes out through the firewall and around back to the tranny. Your project is looking good, by the way!

thanks completely forgot about headlight switch. i think you need the pto gasket for a correct backlash.
gary my old new belt is to short, you wouldn,t know the lengthof the belt. i will replace the pulley.
got to go pickup my Tools and maybe do a bit of stuff. taking the afternoon off nice sunshine today.
stayed a bit longer ,got the choke button installed headlight switch. put bernette.s dash back in its a old cod box. got the wiring sorted out and started installing. noticed the oïl pressure switch got a up position!

Once you make the first gasket you could use that as a pattern for more gaskets to use as shims for the pto.

Looking great as usual! I have done that alternator 4 times over 10 years and I never get the belt right the first time. A well organized person would keep a log book of such items, but I save the sleeve from the belt and then lose it, or it gets mixed up with a bunch of junk unmarked. Sorry.
Gary, I try to put my notes in 3-ring binders so they are not loose all over the place and then I forget which binder or behind which divider tab the info resides. Organization without memory doesn't work either. I have just 4 years of notes for my Ford and have done less than one percent of what you have done. Sorry for my thread hijack, but I thought a little levity might feel good.
