I started to follow your thread when I left for OKC to put in my longblock. I was soo busy trying to get my own in I didn't have time to read all of the post that were coming up. I did have grand visions of doing videos and picks, but I didn't have a helper and once completely covered in grease with daunting hours ahead of me the pics kind of fell to the wayside. It took me 5 days working 14+ hours a day and sleeping in my cab on the lift at the shop. It all went together flawlessly and I made very few mistakes. I installed it right and I'm now wishing I hadn't installed it. Every couple mins when my phone would buzz with a new post on your thread I assumed you had made the right choice with performance mfg. Now that I'm back in Indiana and have time to read some of your thread, I'm worried for you.
my down time costs me money, so I made the call to put it in.... Don't do it if you can afford not to. Send it back for a refund!!!
Mine is louder than my old engine. it knocks worse, it has worse blow-by, they used gasket spray on the gaskets, etc.
Rebuild your old one... These companies are ****3d!!!
Crap, I was waiting for your post saying you we're happy with Blackwater. You just scared the he** outta me n my wife. You get around like we do, have you considered driving to Blackwater to let them hear it? It knocks???? Oh crap!!!!! Are all these companies just too big for their britches. I was told by pmm today that mohele(or however it's spelled) 1. Is the manufacturer for ford. 2. Change the gaskets specifically for pmm, cause they are that big. Yeah, those are exact words.
It got brought up cause the "oem" gaskets pmm sent me are different colors than the "oem" ones I get at the dealer. Namely, the light blue oil cooler gasket, is turquoise from pmm. What's funnier, is in pmm's brochure that came with my gaskets showed the light blue gaskets.
Maybe I'm speaking too poorly mine did come from a different company, and looking at your pics I think they did a better job than Blackwater. I doubt it will be worse than mine.
I'm planning on putting together a complete write-up and experience post on my Blackwater Engines experience when I get an official response on my request for a free extended warranty.
Looks like performance MFG is just repackaging V/R gaskets or another generic gasket set if you ask me. Blackwater still claims up and down that the gaskets are considered OEM because MAHLE makes the gaskets for Ford.
Some things to check:
Mine didn't come with the following:
Gaskets not included in the Victor Reinz gasket set Blackwater engines uses:
Crankshaft position sensor (CKP) o-rings
Camshaft position sensor (CPS or CMP) o-rings
All fuel bowl o-rings
All engine plug orings(water, oil, fuel)
All of these were vital and some really hard to replace once the engine is put in.
I did end up with at least 20 gaskets that have no place on any 6.0L as far as i can tell, which tells me that they use a super generic one size fits all gasket approach which in my case didn't fit all.
Fellow transporter!!!!! Crap, I was waiting for your post saying you we're happy with Blackwater. You just scared the he** outta me n my wife. Wow! I missed that! Like I said this was kind of a marathon trip to install the engine so I didn't have a lot of time to read your thread. I've gotten through the last half of the thread.. Will go back and get the first 15 pages now.
My oil cooler gasket was light blue. Gaskets came in a Victor Reinz box on top of the engine like you said yours did. When I saw that I immediately called them on the phone (this was right after dropping a load in Tyler, TX and driving up to OKC). They gave me the same crap PMM is now giving you about MAHLE making the gaskets for VR and Ford. My b1ching has caused Blackwater to decide to change the wording on their website.
Uploading all the pics now... Will start posting some when they're up.
I think you will be somewhat relieve when you see the walkaround video of mine.
The Victor Reinz (MAHLE) Black Diamond gaskets are supposed to be exactly the same as the Ford Gaskets except for the black coating. Ford is actually going to be switching to the black gaskets as their stock of blue gaskets is sold..... Supposedly.... LOL
Just got done emailing Matt at PMM. Might post mine and his emails soon. I started this thread long before I decided to go with PMM. This thread isn't about bashing anyone. It kinda got out of control with the drama. I just wanted to give people something to look at If they need to do it. I'm gonna pull the heads n make sure they are blue. I gotta go shopping, then the pics will come.

Sorry mods if links to other forums are are wrong, but there are FTE on other sites also.
I'm sorry, but I don't believe this until I hear it from someone at FORD or Navistar. I've seen vendors post crap like this just to drum up business. VR knows they've got a problem and now they have to try and get some PR out there to fix it. Lets don't mention that it's actually a Navistar engine, not Ford.
