Sorry guys. Sean called. The head on the bolt is 10 mm. Rocker carrier.
Is that the same as your old engine? And it looks like there's only TWO 10mm bolts that hold the carrier to the cylinder head, not EIGHT. This means the carrier is a later style.
There are three bolts on the upper edge, on the inside of the rocker carrier holding them.
And what about the carriers on your old engine? Were there only two 13mm bolts on your old carriers? Because if so, your old carrier is newer than the one with the "new" engine. Sorry to sound so nitpicky. Perhaps I'm just pointing out very useless little details.

Let me run to the shed. My old bolts and rocker carriers are out there. They're labeled tho.
Well, if your injector hold-down claws do use a TX-45 and it does thread into the cylinder head, that tells me the cylinder head is a 20mm dowel head, but not necessarily the block. It could very well have 20mm heads being bolted to an 18mm block using the step down dowels.

I agree it does look a little dirty. Unfortunately there isn't a borescope small enough to fit through the injector cup hole that I'm aware of that can give you a positive view of the inside. You would likely need to pull the heads to see for sure, which I thought you were planning on doing anyways, just to see if they did install Black Onyx gaskets.
Okay, that's the good news. At least your replacement engine did come with the correct rear engine cover for a manual transmission application which has a more circular shaped bellhousing bolt pattern than the automatics.
