So Anthony, what exactly are you going to do with your existing engine? As far as what I've seen in the pics you've posted, the only "bad" parts I see are the roller lifters, oil pump gerotor gears and maybe the cam. The rest almost like like they are re-usable with just new gaskets and seals. Are you going to build your own "Black Mamba" spec 500 bhp 6.0L engine?

You know Anthony, if you ever do find yourself up in my neck of the woods (and logging the kind of mileage you do, I wouldn't be surprised if it's sooner than later), you HAVE TO stop by for a beer and get together or two. Letting me drive your truck would be cool too. I would be very interested to see how one of these trucks drives with that kind of miles on it.

No sweat,,, are you in Toronto??? I can come and let you drive us to have a beer or 10. Lol. I was thru there prob 20 times this year. I'm gonna make it to Sean's in Tacoma also. Don't doubt it guys, we will meet up.

As far as the engine,,, I am not sure, holy crap those high performance internal engine parts are expensive. I'd like to build it big n bad,,, but it would b about 15 grand more. I've been looking online for a inexpensive truck with a bad engine. If you all know of one, lemme know.

I'm wondering if I should get everything cleaned and buy the parts, then reassemble the engine when I need it. Road builders (the local shop) said they used to leave the valve springs unattached when storing on their race engines. Stuff like that. What do you all think?

Anthony,
Does the new engine come with the glow plugs installed ?
If they are not in yet you could after you pressure prime it
turn it by hand with a wrench and your would be able to
tell that it's moving oil when the oil pressure switch closes
and your meter goes from open circuit to a closed one.
BTW I am just tossing ideas out . If the plugs are in I would not bother
trying. Just do a pressure feed at the test port.

I was building a deck next door. No work on the truck. But no on the glow plugs. I think I'm using mine. Will the oil pump, pump oil even at very slow speeds(stupid question prob). That would work to spin it by hand. Maybe I could leave the pressure switch out and at least crank it until oil comes out, then use the dvm. Could 5 psi be obtained by hand? Dunno.

Oh you said after I pressure prime it, is there something inexpensive that I could use to pressure prime it. Hudson sprayer???? Or something.

I think a yard spray tank you can get at Home Depot
would do the job with some simple fittings.

You know Anthony, in all these years that I've been active on forums helping out owners of these beasts, I must say that you are the first one that I've come across that actually went through the trouble of tearing your engine down the to cam not only to confirm my initial diagnosis (that you were heartbroken to read at the time too), but to actually follow through with the repair. For this reason, I am actually very interested in seeing the outcome of this.

By the way, are you going to be installing eight new glow plugs? I sure hope so. We all know how easily just one broken glow plug will take a piston with it, right?

Good luck w/all & ill be following to the end
