Not much today, PMM seems like they're messin me around. They keep pushing the ship date back. I'm ready to cancel it. They must have caller id, cause now I can't get ahold of them. Does anyone know If the boss there is on any of these forums?
well, it sounds like you have an engine builder who is eager
to build your backup engine. and will probably do an excellent
job.
and you have some very experienced folks here telling you
your "backup" engine is very sound.
how long would it take for them to build your "backup" engine?
i'm a crotchety old fart. when my work truck was down, it took
a week and a half longer than they said it would. there wasn't
a lot i could do about it. i think he had some staffing problems.
you aren't in that situation. your trucks in pieces, but it's in YOUR
garage.... if i were in your situation, i'd have a talk with these
nice engine builders, and see how quick they could put your long
block together. then i'd figure out when that crate engine had
to ship to get to you by the time the other engine would be done.
that'd be my drop dead date. i either have a tracking number of
the engine in my email on that date, or i'd go with the guys
you've been talking with.
my ten days cost me about $7,000. i was pretty annoyed.
My fingers wouldn't get a hold of the screen. This worked.
Nasty fluid
I pulled most of the fluid out of the tank with the turkey baster
This is the cap over the bleeder screw. I hope I didn't mess up in the coming steps. Let me know if I did.
Removed the cap
3/8 wrench fits it
The bleeder kit has a cap that fits on the bleeder screw with the closed wrench on the screw.
Here's a wider pic of it
Ok, this is where it gets iffy. It was taking forever to get clean fluid through the lines. I decided to hook the tool to the front driver caliper and suck the tank dry. I figured I could bleed the system out. It ran dry for a sec then I poured fresh fluid in.
The kit hooks to compressed air and vacuums the fluid through the system. Once I saw the fluid stop flowing at the front driver wheel, I filled the tank. I screwed up huh.
I got the service manual out and it said NEVER let the fluid run out. Um. Ok. Well at least the fluid is all clean now. I pulled the two far right lines out of the distribution block and bled the master cylinder. I had the wife press the pedal, then I covered those lines while she let off the pedal. I kept covering the lines (nitrile gloves helped, had to hold em like a straw while lifting it outta the cup) until she started pressing the pedal again. When she pressed the pedal, the fluid shot out. The fluid I was getting out was still kinda green. After solid streams of fluid were seen, I had the wife hold the brake down while I reattached the lines. The far right two lines here
I then re bled the system. One wheel at a time. If its messed up, there's gotta b a way to get it bled out. At least I know all the fluid is clear.

I hear that. I don't wanna be a pain to them. But when they start lying to me,,, they can kiss it. Just tell me the truth. They told me it would ship in 5 days when I paid. That 5 days was yesterday. And today they told me it would ship Monday. After they told me it would ship Wednesday, then they said Friday. I don't freakin care about being short handed. I know it isn't how things work, but they should've not gotten paid until ship day. If I'm in a dealership, I pay after the truck is running. This whole experience with pmm is not favorable. I'm fine until they bs me. Their engine is hopefully up to par. Cause god knows if there's an issue, I'm freakin stuck. Their warranty says I will have to ship it to them on my dime. Hopefully after its in and running, everything is fine. If not, I'm gonna freak if I gotta take it back out, then pay to ship it back. I'm rambling, hopefully they are a stand up company. They seem to be. I really have no reason as of now to be upset. But it would be very nice to deal with a warranty issue, with a company I can drive to n let them hear it.

yeah.... getting BS'd from someone you can't do anything but
sit there and take it... well, i'm not all that tightly wrapped in
the first place, and that would nudge me close to an edge that
isn't very far away in the first place.
should have shipped yesterday, and it is looking like this coming
monday? that puts it three days late... not the end of the world,
but if it went out the door tomorrow, it could be in transit over
the weekend.
so they are getting sucky marks on keeping their word... well,
the internet is a small midwestern town with google indexing
everything.... so they are getting up close and personal reporting
on their accountability...
good luck on getting your engine back.... and if they don't get
their chit together by middle of next week, all the people who
are following this build can call up their CEO and ask when it's
gonna ship...... that would be a wake up call.... all these people
from all over everywhere, calling to ask about your engine....

Anthony,
You know I like that idea. But I would not want to mess with your engine.
By jumping in and bitching at them. How ever if you need us to do that
I for one will but not until you ask.
On the bleeding I think you may want to cycle the ABS unit to clear out
any trapped air. I am not sure how to do that with out the right scan tools
or if you may be ok with out doing that.
I use this MV8500 Silverline Elite Automotive Kit Mityvac Hand Vacuum Pump Kits
Very nice tool to have for brake, clutch and other work
I'm not worried about any consequences if any of you guys call them. It isn't like ordering a pizza, where they spit on your food. At least it better not be. There's a bunch of people waiting on my engine, lol. I was calling to cancel on Tuesday cause I had a bad feeling. That's when they said wed ship day. I don't like their warranty anyways. I prob screwed up ordering from them. 36k. So I will be in warranty for about 1 1/2 months. I hope I will notice any issues fairly quick.
Just got off the phone with pmm, it was heated to begin with. I told them I'm ok to brush my hands of each other. He calmed me down and said my engine is crated up and going out today. I hope so.
Fantastic write-up. Pics are awesome. We all know how much time it takes to stop and document all these little steps. Shame I did not see this a few days ago. I would have loaned you a flywheel holder. lol Anyway, I am down in Olathe and am willing to give an assist here and there if you need. Getting ready to pull mine down for studs/ remote cooler / guides and seats etc... Not excited as I am also out in the weather.
