Gas vs PSD
Torque can be made through gearing.
The amount of HP you have is just what you have. Gearing can not fix that.
As far as the 6-8k less MSRP goes, I don't pay MSRP for ANYTHING. EVER. I got my 09, 6.4, XLT, 4X4 for 30 and some change. It will sell for 6-8k more than a similar V10 when I sell it, so that comparison is without merit also.
It sounds to me like you've been ripped off before on a vehicle, and blindly assume everyone else with a diesel is in the same boat...
Ball joints are not covered under warranty by ford, nor are other wear items such as brakes and tires.... Don't know who told you that but it sounds like the dealer lied to you to sell you an over priced service contract.
You paid 6-8k more for it so of course it will sell for 6-8k more when you sell it. What part of that do you not understand? Its quite simple. You got your '09 6.4L for 30k because Ford wanted to dump them all. The 6.4 isn't much of a "performer" when it comes to MPG and other aspects. The Difference is quite staggering from the first trucks sold to the last years of production of the 6.4. More than $20k off the msrp. Sounds like a "fire sale" if I ever saw one. Almost like they wanted to clean house before the good PSD came out.
I have been ripped off, on a diesel vehicle ('04 6.0 PSD) that couldn't make it to its first scheduled maintenance without an engine change (two to be exact, in under 28k). As far as I'm concerned, newer diesels aren't worth the purchase price considering the maintenance and amount of problems involved.

No kidding they aren't covered under Ford, but they are covered under my FREE maintenance contract. Knowing people is a good thing, but you seem to prefer ranting on a vehicle you go ripped off on.

You're the one who doesn't seem to understand that, or you wouldn't have started off with the comment about it costing more. Its quite simple. You got your '09 6.4L for 30k because Ford wanted to dump them all. I got it because it was such a good deal. The 6.4 isn't much of a "performer" when it comes to MPG and other aspects. If you buy ANY truck for MPG's, you're making a mistake. The Difference is quite staggering from the first trucks sold to the last years of production of the 6.4. More than $20k off the msrp. Sounds like a "fire sale" if I ever saw one. Almost like they wanted to clean house before the good PSD came out. I wouldn't pay MSRP for any vehicle. Period.

Gas engines need the gear multiplication to get more torque, subsequently, they use more rpms= more fuel.
On the longevity remark: No, longevity is not compromised because the gas engine is designed to run at higher rpms. BUT, it still will not last as long as a diesel.
From day one gassers have turned more rpms, used more fuel, and not lasted as long compared to their diesel counterparts.
Oh, another modular engine with over a million miles? You don't say...
Blindly? Go to Ford - Cars, SUVs, Trucks & Crossovers | Ford Vehicles and select the Diesel option on any SD and see how much of an increase you end up with. I don't need to; I know the price difference. I also know what it will be worth when I sell it.Do you really? What do you think the $20k discount that ford was giving on 6.4 PSDs is going to do with your resale value? Besides that, I was comparing the prices between the 6.4 and the V10. It's almost like you are trying to convince yourself of the worth of your purchase.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I'm not that smart, but I work around a lot of trucks. I have a good idea of what they do and don't. On top of that I know how to work my truck. I'm not saying you can build that truck to out pull me. Not from the factory though. I sat right where you do once apoun a time. I thought that nothing could touch my 5.4. It could do it all. Well it can just not as good on somethings.. I'm running 4:10 gears BTW. If you out pull me I have no problem comeing right here and saying so. I'll make no excuses what so ever. We agree to the terms beforehand and it lays where lies. I won't care if I'm alittle heavier either. I believe in paying for my education so I'll help ya out on your expenes if you do out pull me.

I ve never done a rolling test. I dont call that a test of getting a load rolling if its already rolling. We can't start from a dead stop?
Nah nah nah, I call shenanigans.
It either out pulls, or it does not. Out pulling in one gear only is not a comparison. That granny gear will get a whole boat load moving, but that long throw from granny to 1st is a real beyotch and no way on gods earth are you going to outshift his auto. You want the rolling start because you know his auto is step on the gas and go and a manual shift is not. It doesn't eliminate the "driver aspect", it eliminates the disadvantage of a manual vs an auto. Compare the trucks, or not, but don't try to stack the deck to give you a better chance.
I've owned 4 PSD's and two 6.8's. I'm driving a 2010 F350 6.8 now simply because it was the best choice for my needs.
Your needs may differ and that's whats great about being able to make your own decisions....
