Advantage: $6000-$8000 less msrp, less maintenance costs, less problems and on and on and on.
Less maintenance costs? Really? I could have sworn my oil and fuel filter changes were free...same with my brakes, ball joints, and everything else for 7yrs, 100,000 miles. Less problems? Care to explain? On and on and on? Explain that, too.
As far as the 6-8k less MSRP goes, I don't pay MSRP for ANYTHING. EVER. I got my 09, 6.4, XLT, 4X4 for 30 and some change. It will sell for 6-8k more than a similar V10 when I sell it, so that comparison is without merit also.
It sounds to me like you've been ripped off before on a vehicle, and blindly assume everyone else with a diesel is in the same boat...
Look yall this what the gear explanation comes down to. In Bills case up to 04 SDs the v10s tranny has a gear of 1:51. That the TS 3rd gear. So a psd in 3rd and a v10 in 2nd the v10 has a higher rpm hence a higher speed. Even though we have the same ratio. That is their proclaimed advantage. Now Bills truck falls out of the arguement when we start compairing with the 6.0 and 6.4Ls. Now the 3v v10s has the same gearing as we do in all gears. Aight so they still have a speed advantage or HP advantage. We have to brang to the table our TQ. I had just about had it figured out then lost the trane of thought. Its hard for me to talk about the invisable forces of nature that's putting a strain on an engine when its on side of a hill weighted down. Anybody that has any kind of understanding knows that its easier for 560 lb of tq to keep things going than 450 especially at the rpm range.we have some in here doest realize that hp is atime intervul instead of a work of force. Hp is a result of movement and force applied.
Guys just give it to them. I can personly live w/ the fact that a 5.4L and and 6.8L can out pull my 6.0L. Even though going down the road that's not what is being seen. I can live w/ it. I'm not going to run out and get a gasser. Nor am I going to feel bad about my truck.
1. You like to be without a vehicle for days, if not weeks at a time due to some "failure". (ALL)
2. You like seeing your truck be towed on a flat bed more than you drive it. (ALL)
3. You want to be on a first-name-basis with your service manager. (ALL)
4. You love blown head gaskets. (6.0L)
5. You love replacing EGR coolers. (6.0L)
6. You like paying more to get V10 MPG. (6.4L)
7. You overpaid for your truck when it came out just to have the truck worth up to $10k less new two years later. (6.4L)
I get 18-20mpg on the highway...show me a V10 that gets near that at 70mph...You can't. I am on a first-name basis with my Service Manager though...Hell, the owner of the dealership lives next door to me.
And oh, btw...My truck books for more than I bought it for....Another blown point you tried to make...
I paid less for my 2010 6.4 F250 than if I tried to buy a 2008 with 40k miles. I know, I looked for a good used deal for 3 months before I took advantage of all the Ford rebates... I'm at the point where I just have to say...
I LOVE MY PSD!
BTW, no one has even bothered to mention that you can get a full Spartan upgrade kit for about $2200 and roll with >500hp and >1000ft-lbs of torque along with other goodies. Gassers where you at?

the only time my truck spent more then a day or two in the shop was because of corroded wires, could happen on any truck, still on the original headgaskets and was on the original egr cooler until I removed it. Early build 2003 6.0 with 258k km's.

We also have some in here that don't realize that engine tq only matters when you are comparing the engines in the same gear. Once you put them in different gears the gearing changes the amount of tq being generated and makes the engine tq pretty much meaningless. For example, your 6.0 has 1.6 times the engine tq of my 5.4, but my 5.4 has 2.0 times the gearing of your 6.0 in 1st gear(assuming you have a 3.73). Even though your engine has more tq mine will get a load moving faster and easier no matter how much weight it is or what kind of hill it's on.

But that goes back to the old argument that with the proper gearing, a human-powered tricycle could do that even easier than your 5.4. I'm sure you'll agree, that's not the best setup for towing...
