Ahhh...mpg, mph...what's the diff, right? lol

Yes, my mileage sucks at 10-15MPH...But I'm not in the traffic much. If I lived in Los Angeles, (a high traffic area) I'd have a 4.6l F150...and wouldn't be hauling as much crap around as I do.

Ironically I live in Morgantown WV, population of 30,000, although it's about 100,000 with all the the little towns and gets up to 130,000 with the students. Major problem is that the streets were blasted for coal miners years ago and have never been made wider. SO we have many main streets that are only 2 narrow lanes.

It doesn't work that way. When you are in 2nd gear and wide open at 5k rpm, the psd will still be in 5th gear, 2k rpm and not even touching the gas pedal. Also, the amount of boost you use on a diesel does NOT affect mpg's at all. I think it was Tom that mentioned it a few hundred pages back, but his 6.4 actually GAINS mpg's the more weight he tows and the harder he runs it. A few times he has even had to stop mid-hill and drain some fuel out to keep it from overflowing lol.

Off topic, but remind me never to go to Morgantown on football weekend. I was up there for work when they played Va Tech a few years ago and you all burned half the town down afterwards

I still find it hard to believe no one has said "What is Ford thinking putting a GASSER in an F750?"

Oh well, talk about anti-climactic.

OUCH!!

Reasons I have a V10:

Diesel costs more than gas, diesel engine maintenance is WAY more expensive than a gas engine, diesel engines are noisy, diesel exhaust stinks, and people want more money for diesel trucks.

Oh, and my 2V V10 just got 17.4 MPG on the highway.

BTW, this thread is almost at 6,000 posts!

The more important question is why Ford chooses to use a 6.7 cummins over the psd. As well as using a GM made Allison transmission instead of putting a beefed up TS in it. What better way to advertise the toughness of your product than by using someone elses. I agree though, for a truck that is made for nothing but work, Ford chose a cummins, cat AND a gasser over the psd. That speaks volumes for the engines they chose(as well as the ones they didn't choose).

The V10 will have the torqueshift.

The PSD used to be available, but due to the on-going Navistar troubles, there hasn't been one for a while. The 6.7 PSD might make it in there eventually after more testing/proves itself in the light duty trucks.

Just a FYI, Ford doesn't make the F-650/750. They are joint venture and built in a Navistar plant.

At least the 6.8l in the medium duty Fords will have the 6spd Torqshift.

That's even worse then if Navistar chooses the engine and not Ford. That doesn't say much for Navistars product if they choose a cummins over their own engine lol. I was thinking Ford chose the engine and tranny, but I may be wrong.

The F-650/750 are technically built in a Navistar plant, but they are really their own truck. Navistar International has no direct equal to them, but their equivalents built on a similar/same chassis only have the Navistar MaxxForce engines available.

So the Cummins/Cat thing is a choice made by Ford.

That's my point exactly. Ford could have used any engine they wanted to in their motorhomes and they chose the v10. They could have used any engine they wanted to in the 650/750 and they chose a cummins, cat and v10 over the 6.0/6.4. That would be like Chevy using the duramax in their silverado but using a cummins or psd in their topkick. Or isuzu having a joint venture with sterling and putting a cat engine in it.

Did you really just copy and paste a post from a year ago, and then post a spam link?
