I like knowing that my engine is running without having to look at the instrument cluster.

I also like neighbors looking at me when I drive down the street thinking "is the garbage truck early this week?"

Guys i have to say there are advantages/disadvantages to both, imho if your going to be hauling heavy loads regularly and often such as a bachoe or maybe a 100-150 hp tractor then a diesel is the way to go, however if you occasionally haul a horse trailer or boat or small equipment such as a bobcat or small tractor etc a gas burner will do you just fine, really the only benefit of a gas truck over a diesel is a cheaper operating cost especially when it comes to oil changes and ease of being able to work on them. Then you have the whole Def bs and the ever lasting crappy quality diesel problem not to mention with pretty much every engine component on a gas truck being cheaper than a diesel besides the accessories such as alt, ac compressor etc. it sometimes is hard to justify a diesel. All i can say is change them fuel filters every 5k cause that is the number 1 issue prone area especially with the diesels fuels we have today. Dont get me wrong im not knocking a diesel by any means i just believe some people arent aware on how much proper up keep costs and dont realize that with todays diesel that these fuel filters need changed at least every 5k.

Well it happened again on my way into work. See it's been rainy here in Michigan for a few days, and well you know what happens when those silly gas guys get water on their spark plugs, coil packs / distributors... yup, dead in the middle of the road, or at best, chugging along on one or two cylinders. So anyway, this poor guy in a gasser was trying to pull an empty 4x8 trailer down a hill and boy was he struggling. So I moved over, locked mirrors with him, and got him moving. He sure was happy to see a PSD come to help!

I've run a diesel truck for the last 400k miles as my personal truck and have never had a 5k mile fuel filter change interval. The 6.7 I currently have is recommended for 15k mile fuel filter changes but not 5k. It costs $50 to change the fuel filters yourself. Over 200k miles that is around $660.

DEF is negligible. I pay $5.50 for 2 gallons that lasts roughly 3000 miles depending on if I am pulling or running empty. Some people spend more than that on coffee. Of course it costs more to maintain the diesel. Right off the bat they have twice as much oil.

I've also run a gas engine since I have been able to drive. Let's be real. The Ford 5.4 has got to be one of the cheapest engines to operate. Our last 2004 Expedition had 250k miles on it with only a plug and COP change and regular oil changes. Our current 2013 has 85k miles on it with nothing but oil changes.

Every time I think about getting rid of my diesel I just can't do it. It is just fun to drive.

.45-70 makes a bigger hole

Just gotta be within about 50 yards But seriously though, a Marlin 1895 with 370gr. Lever Raptors will do a hog nicely. Bolt guns are nice, but I'd rather have the lever gun with six in the tube when things that hunt you back are around in close quarters. I guess there's an argument for not letting them get close though.

Diesel

I still like my 2012 6.7. I have had no real issues with it. I like the extra power and I like not pulling over for fuel as often. I think ford did a good job with this power train.

Now my V10. Been Mostly problem free for the last 100k. But I eats fuel when it is pulling. I get like 7 or 8 pull on flat ground. I use it for local stuff no mountains.

But when a Diesel fails it COST BIG bucks to get it moving again.

I do like both trucks.

I saw a guy in a gasser trying to pull one of those tiny 4x8 U-Haul trailers up a small incline.... He must have had it floored, I could smell the catalytic converters getting hot. He was doing about 16mph when the me and the Mighty Seven Three pulling my 40' fiver camper drove by at about 90, sucking the U-Haul stickers off the trailer and the pin striping off the truck..

The V10 F350 we have has no CAT and a "high flow" muffler from the Previous Owner. Needless to say it is LOUD under load - cruising along not so bad.

However, my wife, commented "this is louder than your diesel".
So, it's all depends on what you are comparing something to.

I do love the diesel sound, low-end torque and effortless cruising on the highway.
Plus with 4 gallons of used oil each change, I'm looking at a oil-burning heater for the barn.
