The following website gives a lot of information about HHO: http://pesn.com/2007/09/29/9500450_B...r_Plans/d9.pdf I guess NaOH limit is 20%, not 25% like I stated earlier. The other thing is you want to rough up our plates with 80 Grit sandpaperin a criss cross pattern tp make a lot of sites for the gases to collect and break away from the plates rather than simply collect on the plates thereby insulating them and rendering them ineffective. I don' know why the voltages didn't change when you added the plates. The voltage should divide equally between each cell.

First off, I sent my unit to Dougphysics about two weeks ago. I have not seen him post anything here in a while. I sent him an email asking if he got it yet, which he has yet to respond to. We'll see what happens....

Maybe he wasn't *** smart as he thought he was,,"BOOM" R.I.P Doug..

Hey wayne.....daddycat did respond and said
I did hear back from Doug today, he has been busy and had a notice of "Attempt to Deliver" from the USPS. He said he will be picking it up in the next day or so. Meanwhile I will be working on the stacked plate design this weekend.
so let's give Doug a chance...or not LOL

Sorry I've been away......haven't touched my unit (LOL-punn not intended) in weeks. Been real busy w/ work (thankfully - self employed) and my parents are moving to Mississippi and I've already make one trailer trip up there and will be making another one on the 8th. So I'm here to catch up and hopefully work on mine some more today. I'd like to test it before the next trip to see if it works. Pulling a 7'w x 7't x 14'l cargo trailer my mileage dropped to 10mpg doing the speed limit and it didn't really matter if I was loaded or not.

difference in design

I see two major designs so far in my explorations and was wandering what the difference was

one design is like milehighhydroguy ...........where you have a large box with 2 plates bolted and then a huge space then 2 more plates

the other design
Has approx 20 or so plates all spaced equally and crammed into a PVC pipe or such

what are the advantages of either?

Higgins

OK, the bubbler is for keeping caustic contamination out of the intake. It would also act as a source from which the unit could draw water back into the generator. How about having a second bubbler in line after the first? Perhaps the first one right at the hydrogen generator and the second one right near the intake? I'd really like to hear what everyone thinks about bubbling the gasses through a water/methanol bubbler. Like I said, I've seen systems that just draw air through aquarium stones in a water or washer fluid bath. I was wondering what the thoughts are on doing it with the output from a hydrogen generator...

Higgins:

The advantage of having 2 plates in a box is there are no parasitic loses from current bypassing a neutral plate. There is no advantage to having such a big box for each oneexcept the mass of the whole thing will hold the temperature down. This should not be a problem as long as you don't exceed the 2 volts per cell rule. hanging a bunch of plates in a 4" PVC pipe works but suffers from the parasitic loses mentioned above. Ideally, each cell should be sealed off and the electrolyte from the adjacent cell can be in contact with the back of the plate of the cell next to it. The same +NNNNNN- arangement, but with no comunication of electrolyte between cells.

thedaddycat:

The primary function of the bubblers are to act as a one way valve to prevent backfiring into the cell, very tough on the cells. the idea of putting one at the cells and another at the injection point is excellent layout. I would shy away from a methonal water mix because you are flowing oxygen through a fuel - alcohol. If a backfire did occur it might be very disaterous. The aquarium stones are a good idea because it will break the gases into very fine bubbles minimizing the possibility of a backfire making it through the liquid.

Great info Marianna......you've been doing a lot of research!

Well I worked on my creation today and I was producing about a liter per minute but the 10ga wires are still getting too hot! So I've torn it apart and found I had damage to the wires inside the unit. So now I'm making the ss straps to conduct the current inside the unit and hopefully Monday get some 4ga wire and those nice gold fuses and fuse block. Now I just have to figure out something to coat the straps so if/when they touch it will be insulated. Any suggestions?

Smile Jumping right in.

Hi, Just ordered the pre-built generator from "march-labs" off ebay. Take a look at the bubbler layout, should help with cooling:

Marianna2003: Wondering what you think of the plate layout.

Also obtaining the MAP sensor:

Will post back with results. I must say this hydrogen generator has a lot of unanswered questions as to amps. Maybe a mistake, but don't have time to build it myself. MileHighHydroGuy: Great boost to the whole www subject. Thks all.

Will install into a 2000 7.3 powerstroke diesel. If one works out, will probably order a twin.

science experiment

Just throwing this out there for criticism

In my sciece lab we (i used to teach earth sciece to high school) when I brought in the hydrogen generator (VERY CRUDE one) we always added HCL to the water as a catalyst

would that work any better or worse than NaOH or KOH ?

I would not use anything with chlorine it with SS. It will corode the SS.

And there is a possibility you will get chlorine gas as one of the gas products.

Acids and alkalines both make good electrolytes, they are just opposite ends of the Ph scale.

But you need to consider all of the chemicals carefully, like which bonds are broken and what is given off and what is formed as residue in the generator.

Since I have not made it to the pool supply house yet to get KOH, I am not worried.
After running my generator several times for a couple hours each time I am very happy with what I see in the generator using NaOH.

No strange coatings on the plates, no funky stuff in the electolyte.
