Well I’m now the owner of a colt stage 2 camshaft.

what is the needed clearance between the retainer plate and the cam gear ? It seemed pretty right on the OEM camshaft. Like .010

I only have documentation of the axial clearance of the cam: 0.051-0.211mm / 0.002 - 0.008 in.

that’s perfect I’ll use some feeler gauges and shoot for like .005-.006.

Dropped off my cam bearings to the machine shop. Block looks squeaky clean. They’re going to do some measuring later this week and figure out what it needs for machine work. They’re going to put some solvent on the Pistons to get the carbon off the ring lands and tops then glass bead them while protecting the skirts.

i’m still hoping that they don’t need to turn the crankshaft. There’s a strong probability that they can just do a finish hone on the bores. Going to order some bearings and have them check clearances of the mains and rods for me so I don’t have to invest in high dollar measuring equipment.

The new cam or the old cam?

the only one had a very small amount of clearance between the cam retainer plate and the gear. I’m guessing that’s what kinda sets the end play?

Yeah, the step is slightly thicker than the plate, so the gear goes to the ridge.

I’d have to go back to my videos to see if I even measured it with the situation.

Next question, should I keep my original rings if the end gaps are still in spec? I’m kinda thinking if they can just do a finish hone on the bores then new rings would probably be best so they can break in together?

im also thinking the engineers that designed the bottom end of the 6.0 were not the same folks they did the upstairs or they ran out of budget. Just a thought. 6.0 could have been a legendary engine if it was not for value engineering

NEVER re-use your piston rings if you are honing the bore. Install NEW rings. Break-in is simple and not an issue. B.

I 100% agree. If your honing you want new rings. The reason is that you have
changed the surface of the cylinders. If you were to reuse the rings they might not seal up very well.
