Well, I was simply trying to make it easier to see the responses and separate them.

I don't know why it matters that they are red, bold, or underlined. Why does that matter?

I'm not sending you a text and Capitalizing everything as if I was upset at you and putting exclamation marks behind all of the sentences.

I was simply trying to make it simple. Sorry.

Looking at the cam, I'm a little concerned about the pitting in it unless I'm being deceptively by a little dirt or debris on the cam lobes. But, people with more experience can weigh in. The bores look great other than the vertical lines but, if those are just the lines of the ring areas and they aren't grooves, then it's probably nothing to worry about. I guess you would have to feel if they are light scratches or grooves or something else. Maybe the cam lobes aren't as bad as I'm questioning and it just needs to be cleaned off a little better. You would have to clean off the pistons obviously to see if they are bad or not. The skirt doesn't look bad from the one piston though. Like it hasn't even been put in the bore yet with the exception of the upper portion with the carbon buildup.

In any other engine, I'd live by a visual judgment of the cam. If its life was with good oil maintenance and good oil temperatures and never had issues with an oil cooler differential, it has a good chance of 500k+ miles. If not, they seem to fail around 180 to 250k.

Pitting is the start of the hardened surface flaking off; fatigue failure of the hardened surface due to compressive distortion under it. People like Geoff Bardal of Colt Cams talk about their product having a thicker hardness region. The secondary indication of issues is scuffing on the ramp surfaces, where the roller is sliding rather than rotating, increasing the heat on the surface.

Compared to it's brothers, it looked good until it didn't.

yeah I mean this cam could probably be polished but I worry about the flaking and then it’s a fast road to deterioration town. Then I’m toast. I will just get a stage 2 billet camshaft for piece of mind. Pressing off is easy I just need to figure out how to press it on. I’ll need some kind of fixture to hold the cam stationary.

You heat the gear up to 300ºF and have the loctite already on the can end.
It almost falles into place. When I did mine it tool very little force to seat it. Make sure that you
have the retainer in place so that it does not get pinched between the gear and last lobe of
the cam. After that let it cool. Keep in mind you don't want to go over the 300º as the yeald temp
for loctite is very close. For some reason the number of 325º comes to mind for the value to get
the loctite to yield it hold.

Well they say 500º for removal. I would still keep it at no more than 300º

When I put mine back on I had the shaft mounted on the press with a bearing splitter and the blocks.
I put the red on the end of the shaft right before I removed the gear from the oven. The oven was set
on concection at 300ºF and I let the gear cook for about 20~30 minutes. I checked it ofter to see when it
reached temp. Once it did I removed it and wrapped in some insulation and headed out to put it on the
shaft. I placed it on and it nearly went into place and only took a little from the press. BTW that press
is a 20 ton press. Also I think the gearage was around 40º and the shaft had been out there all day.
