He has two lasers, and when the new one has issues he uses the old one. Maybe I need a new supplier.

We were using a fiber laser. That and the fact that the transit for the X,Y and Z axes were not all worn out from years of use.
I think I would look around to see if there was a newer laser to be found.

I checked out a few shops last November, but some would not touch it because it was only a small quantity, $200 to $500 at a time. It didn't seem worth their time.

I know this guy has a Traumatic TC L2530, but don't know if that his old or "new" one.

I can see if I can get some contact info for the company that supplied the laser.
They may have someone that would like to play with things.

Sean, there's no reason for you to put an effort into this. My issue. But thanks.

Up and out

Is this normal coloration?

Normal?

Do these look ok?

Passenger side head off

Cylinders look pretty good for 250,000 going to check the bore for taper and out of round. Hoping there still good to go. Don’t really want to have to bore and get new pistons.

So far, things to me look good. The gasket doesn’t show it was leaking.

The next main thing to check is the flatness across the width of the heads, then check for cracks.

While unconventional, you can use a fine wire brush to clean the head surface. It will not be abrasive to the iron surfaces; actually leaves brass on the iron surface. John from Fel-Pro told me that. If you look at one of Fel-Pro’s videos where he talks about head surface or conditioning, you can see a brass wire brush in the background. It’s not at all like using a ScotchBrite pad or an abrasive disc. The finer the wire the better.

my oil rail nipple cups are a little loose on a few injectors. Going to buy that HHC tool and reseal them.

im on the fence with the injectors. It ran well. It would be nice if a place had a flow bench to test them.

I think the passenger side head gasket was fine but I suspect the drivers side is compromised. Granted I only could make cooking system pressure hard on the throttle. 16-18 psi and around 1600-1800 rpm it would really start to move the needle toward 15 after a few WOT pulls.

I’ll get the driver side head off tonight. Hopefully front and rear covers too. I wanna get a peek at the camshaft. I’ll probably just take the whole engine apart and have the machine shop deck my block .001-.003 make it square since this is a one time event I pray. I want them to wash the block, polish crank, clean rods, and pistons. Then I’ll do new bearings. I want things to be clean and sanitary. Right now this block is gross it has been seeping oil at the bed plate for some time along with the rear main.

I realize I'm late to the A/C discussion, but I have a question that may benefit the OP- Is there a difference between brands/sources of refrigerant? I always wondered if the dirt cheap stuff at Walmart was any different than the stuff the auto parts stores sell for $20 a can.

Hmm, I don't think there is that much difference but you never know. It could be that they do or don't put
all the additives in like the dye. I know someone to ask and if I hear back from him I'll let you know.

Drivers side gasket. This is the one I suspected due to the front cover coolant port being slightly eroded. Maybe the head is lifting but not full blown? It would only puke here and there when towing the camper or heavy full throttle back to back runs. I guess I suspected more evidence?

When I made my earlier comment, I was focusing on the center of the gasket, becasue that is where my "head" is at.

I would take a closer look at these area, from 4ft away and up close. That looks like carbon tracking of a small amount, but carbon tracking still. Not where I was expecting, if that is what it is.

Can a machine shop clean my pistons and do a light re-hone? Maybe I could get new rings if the cylinders are round and no taper. Looking to save some dollars. Tearing the rods/pistons out this week.
