Okay, so for clarification sake, what kit would we (I) need to fit my truck with the airbags over the leaf springs like that vs axle tubes like I have now? I have a 2002 F250 CCSB 4x4. Is it more cost effective you purchase a whole new kit (bags and all), or can you buy the individual parts (minus the bags) for affordable?

I’d say since you already have an air bag system and as long as your air bags have the appropriate range of articulation, just get the brackets to convert to outside the frame/over the leaf. @Sous found some over at etrailer.com. I think he posted about them earlier in this thread.

I had a heck of a time sourcing “ Parts” for the airbag system. I never went down the road of looking for the mounting plates, but my bet is that you won’t find them.
As for which kit, from what I can tell that depends on which 5er hitch you have in the bed.
We could have split the kit. You get the brackets, I get the plates and bags. Win- Win. The bags alone were $130.00 each.
@sjbj As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I will be removing (most likely) the AirLift over the axle mounts and building my own kit from parts and pieces of other kits in order to have an over the leaf spring mount for the 5000 series air bags.
My selection of parts will not be based on price or cheapest, but fitment and best suited. A complete new kit should not be required as that is not my intention and based on what I have seen thus far, a complete kit will not be required.
I have a half a page (Word Document) of notes and links ready to be utilized, once we return home. I would not want to speculate what the correct brackets, fasteners and spacers would be until I had some time to figure it out.
If you can wait a month until we are home, then I will likely have a comprehensive list of the parts required and where to get them.
If you cannot wait that long, I can email you my notes document and you can go to town.
Here is the stamped part # on the bottom mounting plates.
I tried to find one on the upper but since I didn’t remove them it was hard to get the camera in there and couldn’t get an image of that part #.
Thank you for that, this is very helpful!
During traveling out west and after I identified the failure point of the current brackets, I was texting with a couple of friends. One of them sent me the following page on Etrailer.
Etrailer has over a dozen upper brackets alone, then spacers, fasteners, lower brackets, connectors, etc. I don't have the time or drive to measure and figure out a solution right now while we are away from home, but if SJBJ wants to go at it I will gladly email my list of notes to him.
Sous, since you already have ouo mounts and flipped u bolts, call Dave at ouo, he has some really, really nice bag mounts :-)
I will do that sir. If not to only have more options and/or ways to accomplish the job.
I just want to do it right this time. I never liked the AirLift over the axle mount and years later this instinctive feeling has proven to be accurate. I always try to tell people to go with their gut feeling, but apparently I had to learn this lesson the hard way.
At least my comments were not a total derailment from the current topic of discussion within the thread.
More to follow and I will create a new thread once my plans materialize and I have a course of action set.
Michelin LTX on the steering axle. 10 years old. I checked the maintenance folder yesterday.
Surprisingly the drive axle tires are still in good shape considering what these look like. Maybe because of the dually fenders they have been shaded from the sun damage. Better than 60% tread left on them but the cracking is giving me a cause for concern.
If the tires on any of our vehicles looked like that on the sidewall, I would replace them. Even my wife's convertible VW Beetle.
Sometimes we have to replace tires before they wear out due to age, it happens.
Ah yes. The flower power VW I’ve seen pictures of. I can only imagine the looks you got while blasting down the freeway all by yourself in it.

Currently doing some research on the replacement tires. They have to be an all weather tire since we have road restrictions on tires between October 1 and April 30 for 3-peak or M&S ratings.
At this point of my life tread wear is not important based on what is left on the existing takeoffs, but I don’t want them to look like a TRUCK TIRE and sing me a song down the road.
