I remember a discussion on that exact topic a while back. There was a chart from trombetta that showed the 25% duty one was still double or triple the amount of time the glow plugs stay on for. Either one would suffice imo.
There you go. I plan to replace my Stancor with a Trombetta when it eventually dies. My fender-mounted start relay is a Trombetta already. It is the version that grounds through the base.

The mounting ears are quite narrow centre to centre. I would have to use fender washers to hold it in place, or drill new holes for rivet nuts. I don’t want it to look janky.
On order is the 684-1271-012 which is the long flat L-bracket. Hopefully this one will fit with the current mounting bolt locations. If not then some modifications will be required.
For some reason the gpr circuit isn’t working. No glow plugs so an extended crank time. I will dig into that later today. GPR Relay.
Had some exhaust smoke coming from under the hood. At first I thought it was electrical, since I just wired in those relays, but a quick smell and it was exhaust.
Pulled the V-band clamp today. Two of the 3 part clamp I could remove by hand. Only the bottom was really seated, and the clamp nut wasn’t really tight.
I’ve reinstalled the clamp and cranked it down tight. Fired the truck and let it heat for about 15 minutes. High idle got the EGT up to 400° then went back and got another 4 turns on the clamp.
Going to check it tomorrow with a non glow plug cold start and see it that’s cleared up the problem.

Cold start completed. -2°c =28.4 °F and maybe 2 seconds crank for it to light without the glow plugs. No smoke from under hood but a fair bit out the tailpipe.
Vband clamp on the babies butt was the problem. I don’t have to pull the turbo to check all the bolts since that would have been the next step.
Makes me wonder how much drive pressure I was bleeding off.
