Centre brake light gasket hack.

Amazon was $35ish for the gasket alone, $80 ish for the dorman housing.

I needed new foam seal for the canopy so while at the truck topper shop I asked if they had a wider than 1-1/2 inch foam.

Yup, 2-1/2 in stock.
K , I need a foot of that too then.

Old crispy leaky foam seal

New stuff I cut the gasket from.

Torrential downpour water test. The cab is all dry.

I have no idea. It was on the truck when I bought it. No previous history on the truck. Not even the factory owners manual.

I can say that the previous owner had a boom box instead of the back seat. Maybe it’s an antenna for satellite radio??? The truck also previous had an alarm system so maybe it’s for a pager???

It current has the factory 6 CD player installed. Once when driving past a sign tune to radio freq 102.3 when lights flashing for traffic report the CD player stopped and the traffic report came on. Maybe that???

Managed to get the USB charger installed today.

Had to do a little filing on the aluminum flange to have it recess into the plastic flange so the plastic door would close but it turned out good.

Here is the follow up on the one week test of the USB / Voltage gauge for parasitic draw on the battery.

For the battery it is a 11 year old interstate 12 volt that was the coach battery from our travel trailer. There were no issues with this battery when I pulled it from the trailer almost 1 year ago. We went to 2-6v in series.

Commencement of the test it registered at 12.6 on the voltage gauge and 12.16 on my volt meter.

I tried my best to measure at 24 hour increments

24 hours, 12.5 - 12.14
Day 2. , 12.5 - 12.12
Day 3. , 12.5 - 12.12
Day 4. , 12.5 - 12.11
Day 5. , 12.5 - 12.10
Day 6. , 12.5 - 12.11
Day 7. , 12.5 - 12.09

1 week of constant draw is equal to .07 of a volt. Arguably test battery health is questionable. The discrepancy between the voltage gauge and my voltage meter was checked against the second USB voltage gauge I ordered. Both voltage gauges read the same with my voltage meter the odd man out.

2 healthy 12 volt in parallel shouldn’t see the .07 draw down in my opinion.

Blah- Blah- Blah.

Conclusion is…

Should have had it hooked up to my truck not an 11 year old coach battery.

Need to get a new voltage meter.

Thanks for taking the time to test the volt meter and share the result.

We live and learn or we learn from the lessons others provide us. Thank you for providing us your results from the testing phase.

Agree with you that a new multimeter is in order.

Cab lights look great, good job!

Although, you should stop using that plywood as a work surface and sell it! The way prices are, you could trade it for a gold bar in a week or two. At least here in MURICA anyway...

I’m sure he’s very aware of that since Canada is part of OPEC (Organization of Plywood Exporting Countries).

LED lights showed up yesterday.

Luyed 194’s for front markers, dually fenders, cab markers, and rear box centre markers. Not sure If I want to use them for the licence plate bulbs.

Not sure which thread but I recall from somewhere not to use led for high mount brake light.

Hopefully I get some decent life out of them.

Back up lights.

Decided to give these a try for the RV. Hoping that with this flat design they will throw some more light down as opposed to the round LED that are currently in there. At $12 for 10 I figured why not.

I have Luyeds in the kitchen area of our 5th wheel, so far they have done well.

The flat ones do work well for dispersing light in the RV ceiling lights, better than the round ones

The led replacement bulbs were nowhere near as bright as the 1 piece LED 3rd brake light when I went that route this fall. Could have just been the 22 yr old lense tho.

I was just thinking about some LEDs for our hunting camper the other week. Batterie is charged off solar and with location never gets a good enough charge (battery is probably about shot too) so LED would get us more light with less drain. At 12 bucks for a set of 10 I might just have to get some of those myself. I'll have to check bulb style next time I go out.

You may have said and I missed it, but where did you order them? Amazon?

LED in 3rd brake light can cause no cruise control and no TC lockup in some trucks. Try it and see??
