1) RV grind cam. The cam is a speed pro split duration 282/292 lift is .485/.511 which Jim says will be a torque beast. Lobe center 112 deg also for low end torque.

I started to put the differential back in and was reminded I need a shop press lol. Found a used one on craigslist. I could use a friends press but I would like to have one handy. Although I hope to hit it right the first time it might take a time or two to hit the right shim stack.

2) Hyper pistons

3) Federal mogul bearings and gaskets

Jim is on the lead with the engine parts etc.

What do you guys think about the list so far?

It all looks like quality parts, and what about lifters, push rods, and the head work... stiffer
valve springs , triple angle valve grind, and so on.... Easy does it amigo, take you time, and do it right the first time...

Looks good so far...

Do the rubber mounts pull apart? I have the bolts out front and back but the upper and lower parts seem firm. This is one of the back mounts under the gas tank (which I have out)

This is the front one and the rubber looks pretty flat compared to the back.

Jeff, where can I find the metal parts for those cab mounts? Or will the old ones come apart?

Looks like there is an upper metal retainer and a lower metal retainer. Based on the diagram, I can not tell if they just pull apart or if they have threads.

You are correct the rubber is really bad on the rad support as well. So my lines are going to be off until I figure out the rubber.

That part on the steering has more play than I think it should. The powersteering was not original. Brad had it installed when he bought from my grandfather. So what part does that look like and should it have some play? Thxs

Mine has a similar style U-joint, but my gear box used 4 bolts and I mounted i lower in the frame, so my steering shaft has less of an angle. Shouldn't make any difference though, and the U-joints should not have any play..

I would look at going to a 1978 or 79 F250 4x4 steering box conversion. Your steering linkage will be in proper alignment and have a much better box too. Those two wheel drive boxes are not as strong and will twist the main shaft trying to turn those big tires off road.

Just my two cents.

fe390, According to Jegs its a 1973 to 1979 F150-F350 unit. So it must be a 2WD power steering unit. I'll do a search for the 78 or 79 4x4 conversion. If you have a link to one please post.

Thxs for the tip!

Jim is doing most of the engine work. I'll send him a message and ask. On one hand it looks like a clean tube but I would think the dipstick would need more area to attach.

Well, I may have spoke to soon. I called back Jegs after looking up the rag joint part becuase the image was not correct. That guy said the part I ordered was for a GM. Have no idea what happened but the guy gave me a number to

The PowerLine 866-637-2787 He said they can look it up and find the part. I looked at every rag joint on ebay and nothing matches my rag joint. I went on YouTube and found a clip where a guy had a 69 Ford truck and he put a 1979 Powersteering unit on and his rag joint is a match to mine. So, I'm stumped as to why it is so hard to find this part. I might be better off to put the old one back on and do the conversion fe390 was talking about down the road.

Thoughts? Thxs

Technically that is not a rag joint. If it is worn out the best thing to replace it with will be a Borgeson Shaft.

Amazon Amazon

Others may chime in here with another option.

Here is the rebuild kit for the joint you have.
