911 So I took the left front closed knuckle apart and found some wild issues. What happened that they did that in the pic? Also, I assume they forced the lock nut on the spindle b/c they did not see the groove for the notch in the lock washer. Then on the inner nut they did a grind job on the small pin where the lock washer locks in. I can use this part (I think) but would like to fine NOS if it's out there. That's my 911. So any ideas?
The above pic is the transfer case... I would like to repace the rubber. 4 bolts and 8 parts of rubber. When I grab the transfer case I can move it - front to back - maybe an inch. Is that normal? I'm in deep with the drivetrain but it will be as good as new or better when I'm done. So wondering if the play is normal or do I need to change the rubber to fix properly?
Jeff, do you need the tag number from the Dana 44 HD 3500 front axle? If it's the same as the 3000lb axle that should help maybe.
I appreciate the help!
Yes please. There was someone on here yesterday with a 72 that has a 69 and older rear axle. Don't remember if that was you or not. So rather than going by application I'd rather go by a tag number if possible. Just in case you have a front axle out of something else originally.

Jeff, good idea. The tag on the front axle 603305-1 4:09 (Dana 44 HD 3500)
Tag on the rear axle 603196-11 4:10 ...ordering some parts from King4x4 and Jake said the tag shows 71/72 rear axle. Is that correct? The nut is a 2 9/16 socket (I ordered the socket) King4x4 said it's a Dana 60 trac-loc HD rear axle.

Now on the front lock washer and nut, Ford still make a kit that has both nuts and the lock washer. Part number D2TZ1198A.
Yes. 99.9%. 2 1/2 rounded axle socket was to small and had to order a 2 9/16 socket. Also, told King4x4 that I had a question about the rear alxe being correct to the tag so he had me measure a couple of parts to confirm.
Maybe the gearheads who worked on it b4 put someother washer on the spindle from another project. On the front brakes they had 2 long shoes on the right side so I expected to find 2 short shoes on the left side, right. But no, there was a long and short on the left side. There was also different grease in the right and left.
King4x4 did not have a Dana 44 HD 3500lb spindle for the front. They also said the nuts would be the same but the bearings were not. So if a person wanted to change bearings and spindle it canbe done. But i will use the one I have and keep my eyes open for one at the same time.
