You've got your work cut out for you cleaning things under control pretty well.
Those inner axle ***** cups look odd being whitish kind of like from caked muddy water..
Will a wire wheel remove any of it as it looks like from muddy water siting in their may be not?

I would not hurt to deep the bearings in some gear oil before assembling so the upper one don't sit dry until you can get the truck out drive it in 4wd to lube everything get coated good with oil.

This may also be a good time to tackle an replace the mid steering shaft u-joint as the it's not easy to see the grease zerk nipple an they get sloppy loose over the yrs.

Those u-joint can be hard to find if you don't know the p/n's but Bill of Jeff can be of help.

Now the other end the fits into the steeling box coupler bell slip yoke parts can be found at Jeff's Bronco graveyard, some jeep web sites carry the dust boot kits for like $20 bucks or they were..

The steering box has a adjustment screw on the side with a lock nut, you can lighten tighten this screw inward a little at a time to help reduce some or all the loose nest (play) in it. But care must be taken as not to over do this or your steering wheel may not return to center by itself when turning a corner.

Okay now this should keep you busy for a while longer if you want your truck to steer better, then this leaves the steering column tube that, I sure will need at least the lower & upper bearings replaced or repacked.

I will post some photos, when I get home to Texas... housekeeper said that something has arrived?? must be my parts, so I will see on Wed. after we land at DFW... and drive home to Granbury.

I am taking the old Spicer/Ford chrome outers to be re-chromed in FW, while I am working (yuck) yet again, in frozen butt Pa, at the Susquehanna power plant. Hopefully, we are back home by early May, and I can put the original hubs back on my rig.. Photos will be posted at that time... Meanwhile, you all keep well, and warm, if you are North of Baja, and on the wind swept Tundra... by the way, had a girlfriend in college with that nick name... Nobody messed with me, or she would kick their azz...

This u-joint was part number C6TZ3815A.Replaced by C6TZ3815B. Replaced by E2HZ3815A. Discontinued but there is a company in Wisconsin that stocks discontinued NOS Ford parts that has the E2HZ3815A. They only sell to Dealers so you can buy it from your local Dealer. Or these Dealers show it in stock.

I found the mid-shaft u-joints at a loco driveline shop $20buck a couple yrs ago. I always keep a steering mid shaft u-joint for beck up.

I really hate using the Borgeson after market mid shaft as the dang set screw kept eating out where it was seated and the thing worked loose.

Why Because they only use one set screw on that the u-joint, I see now that their using two set screws to keep it from working loose.

I sold my Borgeson mid shaft and went back to the fords oem mid shaft after finding replacement parts.

Guys I just went online to order the core support and rubber for the core support and rubber cab mounts. On DC site for the 1972 core support says 'Does Not fit 4x4"... It also says imported 2 wd in my DC catalog.

So where can I find buy the correct core support for my 4x4? Would OEM gauge or better.

I could keep looking for a good OEM support as it will be a few months before I need it. ???

Looking for best rubber mounts and core support.

Thanks

If you are NOT using the "Super Cooling" radiator and shroud that core support will still fit your application. The super cooling radiator requires a bigger opening. So the standard cooling and A/C rads require a smaller hole.
Ford lists that (4X4 according to DC) core support as:
C7TZ16138B
67/72 F100/250 4X4-F350.
67/72 F100/250-4X2-w/super cooling.

NOTE. I EDITED THE ABOVE INFO.

The guy who had the truck put a new radiator in and did Not put a shroud back in.

The opening measures 27.5 wide. Does that help?

How can I tell if it is a "super cooling"?

Thxs

So I found a few salvage yards and when calling found one that has a 1972 F100 4x4 core support. If I buy from a salvage yard where they ship (yes cost goes up) How can I ensure the support is correct? 27.5 inch wide?

I'm running the supper cool rad an it fit in the a stock oem 71 4wd which had a 300 I-6.

It came with a wide radiator support from the factory I guess as far as I know.

I had to replace the rad supper about 12-15 yrs about an just got one from a 75 pickup don't remember if it was a f100 or f250. then only thing I noticed some mount the radiator from the front & some mount it on the rear that all had the same radiator wide opening. I've only seen the small opening with the small rad support with a 240 I-6 or with which had a 302
engine.
If, I had one with the small opening, I'd just cut the extra sheet metal that's not cut out for the wider radiator.

Take a picture of your and how your rad mounts and send a picture to a seller an ask if it it's the same. .

Every 67-72 vehicle, I came across when, I was looking for a rad support all had a rusted area so went with a non rusted 75 was in much better shape with about 5 new holes to drill. cutting one 1" square hole for a J nut on the hood latch.

No big deal to do that just drill a 1/8" hole in a one inch square corner an use a dremel cut out wheel to cut the square out an done.

Jeff, I'm going to order the absorbers for the cab (see pg 2)
absorber upper...C4TZ8100154C. Replaced by C4TZ8100154D.
absorber lower...C4TZ8100155C. Replaced by C4TZ8100155D.

So I need 4 uppers and 4 lowers for the cab front and rear (I think that is it for fresh rubber supporting the cab)

For staging for the cab rubber and the front end rebuild... Jeff, what part number(s) do I order for the radiator support - mounts - ? On those 2 rubber support mounts, it looks like I will need hardware as well.

The only other thing I need to order (that I can think of) would be the bolts (fenders and rad support) and the Radiator (core) support.

My radiator / core support has the 27.5 inch opening (4x4 f250) and like orich said that is an item that would be better to order new. RockAuto had one when I looked last month but when I checked last night it said "no part ava"

Going to call DC and ask them if they have one. So DC has a rad support kit C4TZ-8125-S Guy at DC said it comes in a kit and his info says it's the same kit 2wd and 4x4. That was the good news. Bad news DC does not cary specific 4x4 parts at this time. But glad thye have the kit.

If your radiator mounts at the front the core support then most likely it won't have the side sheet metal side rails for mounting the radiator that mounts at the rear.

This is important when ordering a core support!

How does your Radiator mount ??
Edit or it will have the side rails with a front mounting rad like my truck had.

orich, the rad support mounts in 2 places on the frame - then the inner fenders bolt to the rad support - then the fenders bolt to the rad support.

I'm not understanding your above question... ?

The core of the Super cooling radiator is 26 1/4" wide and 24 3/16" tall.
The core of the Extra and Standard Cooling radiator is 26 1/4" wide and 19 3/4" tall.
The hole in the core support would have to match.

This one is on ebay ... DMC brand Ref OEM # C7TZ-16138-A

Ford Pickup Truck 1967-72 Radiator Core Support * 67 68 69 70 71 72 | eBay

Jeff, can you find me the right #? The one above says it fits 100, 250, and 350 trucks. I would think the F350 had the bigger radiator.

The ref # above on the ebay posting 16138 is Not the same as DC site has listed. C7TZ-16378-A That is the DC listing for 2WD rad support. One step closer.
