Weekend update...

I like the color contrast

Is the brake drum kit for the 2x4 F250 the same as the 4x4? I need to order the kit that has the cable going from the brake adjuster screw up to the top 12 o'clock position. Looking to buy best avalible kit.

Don't forget to put a dap of white grease on the shoe resting pads backing plate, this slow them from squeaking when applying the brakes, plus helps the pads from wearing down any more then they already are. Also lube the threads on the star adjuster. This is what keeps it from rusting up and not work.

Great color job on the backing plates. Sorry I don't know about the differences between 2X4 and 4X4 brake parts. Look them up on autozone.com or Rockauto.com and see if they have different part numbers.

The parts you are looking for are the same between 4X2 and 4X4. The cable separate was part number C8TZ2A178C. Long ago Ford had replaced that part number by C7TZ2A176C. Which was a kit including a cable, a guide, and a lever for both sides. This way one kit would fit either side.
All of the below companies show at least 2 of these kits.

autozone carries the kits too. But their kits are side specific.

Dana 60 Rear Axle / Brakes and rebuild:

Ok, guys I'm back on the truck and looking for some parts. On the rear Dana 60 axle... I need the following parts. Manual says there are 3 Dana 60 axle options for my truck. Are they all the same parts or do I need the tag info?

Gasket
Lock washer aka Spindle washer?
Wheel hub Seal or might be called Oil Retainer (it goes right behind the inner wheel bearing)
Springs and rebuild parts for brakes. (I will check out RockAuto to see what they have)

Will inspect the bearings later today to see if those are ok. Because there are broken springs and it's a mess I could use a link showing how it goes back together. Do have the manual which is very helpful but any tips or links would be appreciated. I will post a pic in a few minutes.

Thanks for the help -

This is the rear axle I took apart yesterday. The spring on the bottom was broken and there is a part at the 4 oclock position that is just hanging. So I will take it apart today clean up and order parts. See my posting above about what parts I need help finding and see the next pic as well. Thxs

The lock washer in this pic is what I need. I could make this one work but would like to find some OEM / NOS... Baja?

Looks like the last person to take it apart didn't have the proper socket (axle socket) and used a chisle. That's what my PO did too. I bought the socket at O'Reillys for about $8. The piece hanging down is the cable for the adjuster. Your front brakes were well lubed-LOL. Are you going to flush out the rear end now too?

Here a picture of my D60 f250 4wd rear end brake assembly

These bearings need to be pack with grease.
Note and lubricate the both sides of the lock washer before to tighten the lock nut.

If not lubed the torque pressure will turn the lock washer damaging the key tag twisting it off since it so thin when you torque it to 50lbs. to seating the bearings.

Gary, good point... What is the best way to flush the axle? When I pulled out the left side rear axle it had some black thick oil or grease on it so I think a flush will be good for it...

Thxs -

Rich, thanks for posting the pic. Once I do the 50lb load to seat the bearings do I back off 1/4 turn then lock down the outer nut at 40lb? Manual does not give me the torque specs or I'm looking in wrong place.

Book say TQ to seat 50-80lbs. back off 3/8 of a turn, Coat new lock washer with axle lube smooth side out.

Then install locknut TQ to 90-110lbs. Then make sure wheel turns with 001-0.10 clearance then bend lock ears over.

I am surprised to see that small lock washer. That and the 1 13/16" thread, 2.38" hex nut were in Dana 60's 1969 before ser #F30.001 and OLDER. Your rig has gotten a used rear end in it sometime in it's past. After ser #F30,001 and newer had nuts 2" thread and 2.56" hex. So when you buy the wheel cylinders, springs, hardware, axle gaskets, and hub seals buy them for this older rear axle.
Lock washer is Ford part number 61-1124.
The 2.38" hex nut is part number 61-4252.

No 61-4252 on my locators.

As usual amigos, El Rey has the parts ID well in hand. I have had good luck with Quad 4x4 parts, a bit pricey though. If you can't find it somewhere else, they usually have it.. Buy an extra, as they are not getting any easier to find anymore. Lots of lock nuts have chisel marks on them, but that may be a back-up plan for getting them off, but not the best for re torquing them... Buy the socket.. it is well worth the money..
