I'm itching for nicer weather so I can make some progress, I have 2 projects underway on my truck. Replacing the original column with a slightly newer one that I am rebuilding. Will have a working column shifter again when again that is completed, not to mention fixing the upper & lower bearings, new blinkers, new shift indicator, and a new steering wheel). And putting in a "highliner" headliner kit which has pods for 4 speakers, so this is a going to be a stereo upgrade as well - 4 new speakers, an amp, and maybe underseat subwoofer.

Woot. I vote for two 12" subs behind the seats. New 6x9 door speakers. Mids on the dash. Tweets in your roof console. Big amp between the seats.

Boooooooooommmmmm ratttttle.

My year of truck has the gas tank behind the seat, and the cab is 2" smaller than the 73-79 cab. So I have the seat all the way back against the gas tank even though I am only 5'7", no room for a pair of 12s. But I found a slimine underseat 10 that I think will help with the bass.

For sure whatever I end up with will be WAY better than what I have now. The pic is kind of dark so you might not be able to tell, but thats a computer speaker, held on by an angle bracket screwed up top beside that little light near the where the headliner would be, if I had one.

The Toyos were more than some and less than other brands with similar tread patterns. Fingers crossed I made a good decision. We'll know Monday.

Oh, I went with the 305/70/16 The mechanic said they should fit no problem and still give me some room to move around, tuck, etc. He said 315's were pushing it. They would work but I wouldn't have nearly as much room in the wheel wells.
Should be sweet James, which shop is doing it?

bought for $200, pulled the engine and engine mounts($140) to use.
Sold: Hubs/wheels $160, Rear axle $150, fender/door $100, hood $40, seat belts $25. And traded some stuff for a set of Headers.
So added all up I have made just over 400 on it after purchase price. Plus got a engine and set of headers out of it.

Is that sliding rear window in good shape? How about the air filter housing?

I'll have to look at the back glass, but I think it was. I think air filter housing is complete and in decent shape aswell.

So I did a little more to the truck...

Decided to try something different and swapped just the front ratio, should turn the front about 10mph faster at WOT. Also pit in another set of Super joints in the axles while I had it apart. I also pit on another set of hubs that I had, so I've got functioning hubs again.

Nice work.
On the gear swap same size tire front & rear or different sizes?
The gear swap I take it is to help the front pull straight thru the mud?
I know for sand drags/mud racing the gear difference is not a big deal just wanted to know is all.

Did Ford make a full time locked hub?
For racing it is best to go full time locking type as they are stronger and should not blow apart like the un-locking type like to do.

As for work on the project.
I have had the nuts & bolts for the flare side bed sitting in Evap-O-Rust for a few days, have not been home to pull them till now.
They look pretty good after a rinse of water, then in the oven to dry them. They did get a little surface rust but not bad.
Now see if it is warm enough in the garage for any work.

38.5x11 front, 38.5x15 rear. Yea the idea is the front pulls you through the mud, which in turn makes it easier to handle.

I had a old worn out set of hubs on it that I talk welded the pieces together and slid back into the alum housing. The passenger side is still that way, but the driverside has a functioning hub incase. That way if I break something in the front I can atleast move it around unlocked.

New tires going on today hopefully. I dropped it off last night. Also getting the transmission flushed with new filter and gasket. They are also going to fix the abs hub sensor.

I've been looking at putting a front receiver hitch on the excursion. I might need some help doing that. I'll need to replace the fog lamps in the process. I can pay in beer.

Front receiver can't be bad, I'd be glad to help., Fogs shouldn't be either

Thanks Dustin. Seems pretty straight forward. There's two different ways to mount as well.

I also need to research getting fogs put back on. Might be time to update the front lighting in general.

When I get the receiver I'll put a call out for help.

That's the plan.

Truck won't be ready until tomorrow. A few parts came in late and they found a cracked rotor on the left front. I knew the caliper pins were frozen and I had bought a replacement set. But apparently I didn't get to it in time before it became a problem.

I'll still be at dinner tonight.
