Noticed on the way back from uwharrie I smelt diesel fuel, so after I get back home, I see the bottom of the fuel filter is wet, I try draining a little out, tighten it back up, all seemed fine. Go to leave work yesterday, truck starts, then dies immediately, apparently the filter drain dripped and sucked air in while it was sitting at work. Bled lines, got it going, didn't have anymore issues. Not impressed with wix at the moment.
Yesterday got more done on the bed floor.
After cleaning the brace & floor for welding I put the floor back on the truck and found did not clean enough and had to lift it up to do more cleaning. Tacked the brace to the floor and pulled floor off so I could weld the brace to the floor.
Setup for welding.
I then was able to trim the front of the floor as it was real close to the cab.
Did I tell you I have been doing this by my self?
This is how you get the bed on & off the truck.
It was time to put the old flare side bed panels together so I can see how much of the floor had to be "trimmed".
More trimming to get the panels to side on the mounting lips.
The style side floor seams to be just a little longer than the flare side as the front/rear lips show but can be dealt with easily.
front lip about 1.5 inches
rear about 2.5 inches
Still have some final centering, squaring & trimming then will drill a few holes and put bolts thru to bolt the sides to the floor and fit it to the truck to see how it all fits.
Then take it all apart to clean & paint the floor and fix the rusted panel lips.
How I left it last night.
Dave ----
Well I can see Dave and Larry been busy. I've been tinkering a little but not making too much progress.
I did take the old Edelbrock carburetor off my Chevy motor (in the little LUV minitruck) and replace it with a Holley. Starts and idles much easier now, but until the truck is roadworthy I can't test it out!
Speaking of carburetors, I got some old Holley 94 cores (old stuff from the 50's, look like Strombergs) to rebuild, because I want to go with dual carbs on the 55 Belair. I figure out of 3 I should be able to get 2 good ones!
And finally, finished a set of cornhole boards I had been planning to finish weeks ago. Donated them to my buddy's car club (Full Throttle Car Club of Benson) to auction for his car show this past weekend (at the Benson Harvest Festival). Was pleased to find out they brought in $151!
Saturday I replaced the leaky fuel filter on the idi, put in two new everstart maxx batteries from Walmart, and started planning where to mount a water separator on the frame rail, ordered a wix 33439 14 micron separator and a 33009 3 micron final filter. Gave it a good wash, and found something broke my bug deflector, must be all that speed and here's our newest addition, Duke.
Thanks, we lost our 1st rottie about a month ago,had him for 10 years, great dogs. This ones into everything, dad was working in the shop marking some metal with a crayon, dropped it, pup swallowed it.
Spent a little bit of time today washing the woman's truck up, then hand washing it.
Had to drag it off the trailer sinceI hurt it last weekend. But it still looks good all washed up.
Just placed 2 orders, one from Rock Auto, and another to Summit. Just shy of 6 bills between the 2 orders.
Got some stuff for both trucks,
3 ring and pinion sets... yet for 2 trucks?
Quickcar switch panel/fuse block for Ol blue
2 sets of Moog super strength axle joints, 1 for each truck.
Ball joints for the 96.
Figures I may aswell make the order so I can keep both projects going.
Found my heater core issue is still prevalent, corroded this one, Working on finding what's causing the issue. Went to busco beach Saturday before it went.
Yall start hanging out at busco you're going to need a huge lift, relocate the radiator and snorkel the air box.
A whole different animal at busco than uwharrie.
Looks like yall had fun.
The old Honda winched out some ATVs, high centered once, but otherwise no issues. It's not getting a snorkel or huge tires, one guy in the group flipped his over in the pond by being stupid.
