It started life as a 429. Its slightly larger than that now, it's also been decked, and has flat tops. Its got a cam, but probally gonna go a little bigger.

A little backwards from how I did the jobs today.
The dash pad I took down the foam with a saw then a bondo file, sorry forgot to get a picture. Then I used the Latex foam with water to fill in the low spots and will let that set up and see what it looks like. If it needs to be smoothed out I don't know what I can use but I will cross the bridge when I get to it. Remember this was the worst pad I had and was going to the trash any way.

The weather was pretty good for painting so I degreased the inside of the cab, doors and inside of the fenders the I re-sanded everything again and the prep work needed before painting. I got to tell you it was fun (not) painting the inside like the roof.

After the painting and the dash pad I hit all the bed and cab bolts with PB Blaster on the parts truck so I can get the bed off to see if I can use the floor for as the floor for the flare side. I also started to take the moldings off as I will need to cut the bed sides off and don't want to hurt them as they are in pretty good shape.

ps-Josh I even hit the rear bumper bolts
I sure hope so... a couple buddies have spent big money to outrun me here lately. Just narrowly edging me out so I figured it's time to get away from my tired junk yard engine.
One of my better running drag motors was a JY build. I did replace the main, rod bearings (showing copper)and piston rings (all stuck on the pistons).

Oh and I'll need a tail light wiring harness as I left mine on the bed James has now.
Then comes the decision on if I want to put it on the road, or spray the inside of the cab and get that where I want it.
I hooked up the generic, trailer lights in a box kit and mounted them to a piece of flat steel on the old trailer we put your bed on top of.
I was going to put stock lights in the empty holes but didn't because there was nothing to hook them too. I was going to have to figure out how to wire it up aftermarket. So I just went the cheap easy route and stuck the box kit on.
Thinking about it it feels like I got something big done just what painting I did.
I can now look into what is needed to restore the dashboard frame and get that and wiring instslled.
I can also get the fenders back on it so it looks some what like a truck again.
If I have a rain no work day that's what I gave planed or the weekend after I finish cutting the grass.

Still got a spare set if heads and a couple blocks in there, also got another complete engine not pictured.
Needless to say that didn't go as smoothly as planned. Got the oil change done, them dropped the trans pan and cleaned it up found 2 nuts on the magnet that had came off the valve body, so got those back where they go. Popped a new filter in it and slapped the pan back on. Refilled with 7 quarts, then popped the return side off the cooler and had the wife crank the truck and go through the gears. In about a minute it only pumped maybe a quart of fluid out. So I popped the feed line off the cooler and in 10 seconds it pumped about 4 quarts. So I guess off to buy a new cooler I go...
