I spoke with the service director at my dealer today. He said he's going to email Ford to see what they will do...after asking "we haven't done that for you yet?"
This was durring the same phone call as I complained that one of their techs on Monday disconnected my Polk speaker in my drivers door in three places and moved the wire to a completely different place in the door...and didn't hook the speaker up. This was on the opposite door that they were to be working on.
Just had mine done. 7500 Miles and covered under warrenty. Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure I do notice a slight difference (increase) in pedal pressure to get the same results with the new pads. The same route to work and in one area I noticed a difference under moderate braking.
Had the clutch packs done as well, now I'm feeling pretty good about it........

Just out of curiosity which dealer did you get your rig fixed at. I have an 03FX4 as well and complained about the brake issue soon after I bought it from T &C Ford in Portland. At that time the new shoes were not available. I have 4000 on the rig and would like to get some warranty action as well.
My dealer said NO to me for warranty. I made them aware of other dealers (info from Internet, FTE ) doing it but said that they were just covering for their customers. In other words, it was not submitted to Ford for warranty but just no charge to the customer. The TSB is very clear that it is not a warranty...can't disagree according to the wording of the TSB but I do disagree with Ford's position.
Mines an early '03 build and more than the magic 12K but this didn't seem to matter.
Oh well perhaps there will be enough further complaints that will prompt them to change their mind
My Ford dealer will not give me a yes or a no on replacing my pads at no cost on my 04.
They also told me the new pads are on "national" back order, what ever that means. Said they are not due in till the end of March. I have a hard time believing that bull.
I am done waiting for Ford, going to have my son put on the third party ones I bought.
I had mine done over in Tigard (where I bought the truck). It was not easy, but once I got their attention, they came through, eventhough I had about given up. I wrote letters to the service manager and the relations manager concerning all the issues (and the way the SA treated me when I tried to use normal methods) to get their attention. The feedback I received was that the dealer had to really pressure the regional service managers to get Ford to cover it. I'm still not clear who actually paid for it.
Mine were on backorder as well, but it only took a week.
I'd suggest writing customer relationship managers, service managers and regional service managers until you get whats right.
Excuse my ignorance if this has already been asked, but is this dust problem experienced on all 03/04's or could it be just the ones with advance-trac? Doesn't advance-trac apply the brakes to the wheel that the computer thinks is slipping?
Or is it just a problem with pad quality/material?
Again, sorry if this has already been beat to death.
When I took my expy in last week, they said the pads were on back order too, but then in about two days, they had replaced all four, so either they didn't really put the "new" ones on or they aren't really on backorder and they are just trying to get you to go away. Will put some miles on this weekend and will let you know how they are. By the way, neither my old pads or the new ones have squeaked a bit.
As I said in an earlier post, the new pads seemed to be working great- no squeaks and no - repeat, no- dust. However, after 300 to 400 miles, I now have a shimmy/vibration in the front when applying the brakes. Going to the dealer tomorrow. Will post results.
Went back to Bill Kolb Ford for my appointment to have the pads replaced. Refused to do replacement. Called Dearborn and still refused. Quality is Job1 BS. $45K vehicle looks like crap. Making 1 more call to Ford and if not resolved my next one will be a Sequoia. Went through crap like this with the Firestone fiasco
i had an o3 exp xlt traded on 04 exp eb both of them have serious brake dust problems. i have tried the rainx wheel protectant which helps but still need to really scrub the wheels and tires as well as the front of the running boards frequently, very frequently like every two days. am thinking about try the aluminum dust sheilds that are available basically they are inside hubcaps for the wheels i have heard that these work great and are actually oem on mercedes. however better pads would be the answer here.
