03+ - Brake Dust Update
scotty try this www.rainx.com
this product works pretty good however:
1. must be applied to a cleaned dry wheel
2. it only makes future cleaning of the wheels a little less time consuming.
in the case of expeditions it would work best if you installed the kleen wheels first then apply the rainx wheel protectant to give your wheels a little extra protection from the elements.
the best solution so far is to just get the kleen wheels with them you will have no brake dust---absolutley none period. if you scroll back thru this post u will see that we disccused this topic completely.

I just brought my 03 exp into my dealership today to have the pads replaced with the newer Ford models that generate less dust. The tech is telling me that the newer model pads are only for the front barkes and not for the rear. Yet he is telling me that I also need new poads for the rear and that they want to put on the older style pads for the rear. is this accurate? Are the front and rear pads different? Also he is telling me that I need new rotors for the front and the rear rotors are still ok but need work done. This is an 03 EXP with only 30,000 miles. What do you think?
How much do the new pads cut down the dust? I have an 04 that was built in 11/03, and the dealership tells me that i have the new pads... My front wheels get coverd (enough to be completely noticeable and non shiny) with dust after about 500 to 600 miles of normal driving. Are the old pads worse than that? or do I have the old ones? thanks
You should have the revised pads. According to what I have learned from various sources, the old pads were more abrasive to the rotor and the dirt on the wheels was rotor dust mixed in with some pad dust. The old pads stopped the truck very well, better than the revised pads, IMHO, but they tore the rotors up and turned the wheels black, when compared to the new pads. I find myself cleaning the wheels a lot less often with the new pads.
I just put those Kleen wheels Dust covers on my '04 expy and after a couple of hundred miles the wheels are still Clean! No dust noticable on the rims. No difference in braking even when I pull my 5000lbs trailer. It's very nice.
After running the revised pads for 1800 miles I can say that the Kleen Wheels
would be something to consider with the old pads, but the new pads don't dust enough to warrant them. Washing the truck every week to 10 days keeps the wheels clean.

Klean wheels
I've had my klean wheels on for over a month now and WOW. The wheels stayed very clean. Since we've been having a lot of rain on the east coast I have'nt had the cars cleaned too much. The amount of brake dust on the wheels after a month is about as much as 3 days of driving before. I wish I could remember where I bought them because they werte $66 for all 4. Autoanything comes to mind. I also can't feel any warping of the rotors yet after about 2K miles.
