I hate to bust ur bubble but my brother in law is a ford service manager in new orleans and he has informed me that it will take a class action lawsuit to make ford pay for the new brake shoes. A new low dust brake shoe has been made but ford is not planning to eat the cost. he also told me that in a recent meeting with ford, that this exact topic came up and ford told them that they will not even as much as supply the parts under warranty, even if the customer was to pick up the labor charges. Looks like we have a long "dusty " road ahead of us.

thanks for the reply wscott
do yourself a favor and install the kleen wheels and you will have no brake dust absolutley none--period. even if you change the pads to the new ford ones or aftermarket pads you will still have some brake dust with kleen wheels you will have no brake dust---none.

I went to my dealer to see about the new pads for my 1998 Eddie Bauer Expedition due to the heavy dusting on the front. Hardly any dusting on the back. Since I work for used car lot who buys alot of their trade-ins and has a resale number I figured I could get a good price. I was told that the new pads will not fit on my 1998. They recommended Kleen Wheels. They also said that they recently put RayBestos QS pads on an older Expedtition because of the dust problem. The parts manager is going to let me know how these pads work out. The certified mechanic at my shop will change the pads for a lot less than Ford. I can get the RayBestosQS Pads or any other pads including Ford OEM at my dealers cost. In fact I can either get the rotors turned or replaced at cost. I am going to buy all four pads, but we are going to change the front one weekend and the back the next. I do not plan any heavy driving between these installations so there should not be a problem. All this came about due to the heavy dusting which led me to examine the brakes. I noticed that even though I have had no indications that it was time for a brake job. The dust problem will not deter me from enjoying the BEAST!(Term of endearment)

New Compound Pads

We had our pads changed on our 03 EB and the difference is like night and day. Just came back from a 1,500 mile trip and there is hardly any dust on the rims or running boards. We got Ford to change the pads when we had it in for the second replacement differential, (yes third rear diff and counting) all under warranty. One other note though, the shutter on slow right hand turns and clunking in the rear-end is back. I guess the rear differential can do close to 2000 miles before it starts to clunk and shutter. I guess the only solution is to find a third party differential that won't cost me a kings ransome. Ford can't seem to fix.

Cool

I just spoke to the service manager at Sansone Ford, Rte 66 in Neptune, NJ. He swears that Ford will not replace the brakes under warranty. Evidently Ford is treating this as a cosmetic fix. They want around $550.00 to replace all four with semi-metallic pads (what a rip-off). If that's the case I'll wait until ceramics are available from Pep Boys or somebody.

Thats the same info that I got out of my dealer. some people on this forum have said that ford has replaced theirs under warranty, but I would have to see it to believe it. i have contacted all ford service managers in the New Orleans La. area and not one of them has told me different. I'll wait for the ceramic pads also. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!1
