nickalbu,
All under warranty? Or do you just mean they did the job at no cost to you. If under warranty, I sure would like to know how they pulled that one off.
On the invoice out where the dollar amount usually is, it says WARRANTY beside each part number.
Also there was no cost to me.
I had about 5 things wrong with this rig and I put in a real negative customer service survey that I received from Ford Canada just after I bought it.
Also the first three times It was in for service, they smeared black grease all over the tan door jam inserts and tan floor mats. Then they left huge scratches on the drivers door after changing out the power mirror motors. It’s been buffed out.
I've brought all this to the service manager’s attention every time. I am always polite and asking for proper service.
I also don't know if all this headache swayed him in eating the bill, they just said Ford knows about the problem, it's the same one they have with the Focus and they were trying to fix those customers first, now it's time to work on the navi/expy.
I purchased an 04 Expd manufactured in 12/03. Anyone know if the pads installed then were the old or new style? Just put 20" rims on and don't want them discolored!
Ordered on line from Phil's Inc.com a set of front ceramic brake pads. They are made by TRW and found them when I did a search for quiet stop pads. Paid 53.28 plus 9.38 for shipping.
Will have my son put them on asap. I too want to put my 20" tires and fancy chrome rims back on but wanted to wait to change pads to get rid of that awful brake dust.
Pads are for an 03 and fit my 04 according to Ford (said 03 and 04's use the same pad).
Was odd, on my 03 (which Ford took back for lemon problem) the brake dust did not seem as bad as now on my new 04. But I had the chrome rims put on right away on the 03, maybe it was not as noticable as this 04 still has the stock rims on.
I had to clean the rims even after going through the car wash on the 03 but the dust was never as thick as this 04. Maybe the chrome rims allowed most of the dust to slide off, hummm...
Anyway will post back when the new pads are put on and let you all know if they are dust free.
If you go into your dealers service department and ask them to do an OASIS report and tell you your build date. It has the Month, Day, and Year on it. Don't leave until they tell you.
I have gone from the original pads to the Wagner aftermarket pads and just recently to the new pad offered by Ford. For reference, I thought that I would post my experience to date with all three options.
Since everyone has their own opinion on what level of dust is unacceptable, I'll try to post my threshold for unacceptable dust levels for all three brake pad options. The intent is to give you an idea on how quickly the brake dust accumulates for all three brands.
I drive about 50 miles each day. The time frames listed below are my personal thresholds for unacceptable brake dust buildup.
Original Ford pads: 1-2 days
Wagner pads: 6-8 days
New Ford pads: 14+ days
Hope this helps some of you who are searching for alternatives to the original pads.
Had the replacement pads on for 2 months they have miminal dust. The key is telling them the dirty pads need to be changed due to excessive wear. As long as the miles are less than 12k they can change them. FYI the kit comes from ford with front and back brakes have them change both.
My '03 Navi had over 35K on it and the dealer offered to replace them at her expense. I did not think that was quite fair so I paid her cost. Guess where I will buy my next one? The dealer can be more improtant that the manufacturer.
My dealer said no way...of course that was the service department. I'll have to talk to the owner (who happens to the salesman that I bought it from) and ask him...he's well aware of the problem, as he's had three of them, all with the same issue. I can talk to him...the service department is just doing what they've been told.
They did just replace my front rotors and machine my rears due to a bad job they did machining my front rotors. The brakes are nice & smooth now, but they still squeak like a *******.
