I had my dealer pull up this forum thread and he read it while we were on the phone. There is stuff here that he hadn't heard, so he said he'd look into and call me back.
When he did call back, he said that this is what he found out so far:
The 4 Z part number others have quoted here appears to be four brake pads that are identical to the 2 Z part number that I posted here when I got my "new" pads and told you guys about it. He says this because the single set (2) replacement part for the 4 Z part number goes back to the 2 Z number I posted (meaning that when your front two pads wear out on the new 4Z (set of four pads) pads, Ford says to replace them with the very same 2 Z number that I posted).
He still feels that he put the new pads on my vehicle, but he is being honest with me and admits that from what he read in this forum, he has more checking to do.
I will say that if I have the new pads, they aren't dust free. Maybe they're a bit better, but like the other fella said, maybe that's just because I want them to be a bit better.
My dealer feels he should be able to get to the bottom of it and when he does, I'll let you know what he feels is the final word.
For most folks, I'm afraid that Ford won't do anything for the dust as far as warranty replacement. All the dealer has to do is reference the TSB that says it's a normal condition.

I don't know how to post a picture here since I don't have any pictures in a web site.
I would gladly e-mail one to someone who can.
Email me through this site with your email address and I'll send a pic.

I have the same pads that 007sbcglobal had put on. It's been 2 weeks now since the dealer replaced them and I must say that they are much better than the original pads. I agree as well that they are not dust free. The major difference is that the brake dust is not spraying over to my running boards and/or the body. The brake dust is still not acceptable when I compare it to all other vehicles I have owned before. So I will replace them with aftermarket pads. If the aftermarket pads still dust up the same, then I will say that it's an engineering flaw.
Again, the aftermarket pads are going to be installed 1/14 by my personal mechanic as I do not service my cars at dealers, unless warranty issues. I will post the results from the aftermarket pads including the part number.
I have posted some pictures to compare RAYBESTOS pads installed on my 2001 Supercrew and the stock pads on my new wifes 2003 expedition. Now some may say how and should I een compare 2 different vehicles. The picture on the expy wheel was taked just 4 days after being washed and the wheels on my supercrew is 2 weeks without a washing. To view these pictures go to my photo album and look the album named "wheels" and see why "maybe" I'm being so picky and so is everyone else here. Of course the picture inserted in this post is my truck wheel just washed.
Well, my Navi is scheduled in for the new brake kit. Ford (Lincoln) is standing firm; they consider brake dust normal and will not pay anything towards the new kit. The dealer, however, feels differently and will pick up the entire cost. I actually feel guilty inasmuch as I have 35k on those pads and would have had to replace them anyway. I offered to pay their cost or split the difference but they say they will eat the whole thing. Guess where I will buy my next Lincoln/Ford?
Anyway, after the new kit is installed, I will update the forum on the dust issue.
I have just been told that the brake kit is on backorder with no date estimates. So even if you want to pay for them, you wont be able to get them for some time.
