I think after all these pages of discussion that it's clear that truck owners have forgotten what trucks are for... to work hard, get dirty and be proud of it. Maybe drivers today are getting lazy... I know I am.... and Matt, too.... :-) Dirt is a fact of life, you still have to wash your vehicle to get rid of a week's worth of industrial pollution.. thanks for relaxing the anti pollution laws EPA... chewing gum, tobacco juice, bugs splatters, tree sap, jet fuel, and diesel soot. So what's the big deal about brake... not break... dust?
thanks for your respone tsdrallyer the expeditions create the dirtiest brake dust situation of any vehicle made. it is a terrible problem ford knows it and so do we owners we live it every day just ask anyone who has an expedition u will see it is right up there at the of the list. Its a serously problem in one or two days the wheels and tires are black as well as the front of the running boards. ford has just recently engineered a new brake compound to address this situation it is really bad. this is not a case of minor dust and inconvience its a filthy problem. your absolutly correct you dont have to clean it but i think even a natural born slob wouldnt like this mess
I keep a clean car and that brake dust is disgusting to me. I go to the car wash weekly and even those brushes don't clean those wheels. I plan to put my pricey chrome ones back on and sure as heck DO NOT WANT THAT BRAKE DUST on them/
Maybe tsdrallyer does not care about the appearance of his HARD WORKING VEHICLE but I do. Ford screwed all of us and won't do a darn thing about it.
After everything you've been through, don't let brake dust sour your ownership experience. Just for the record, that was the least of my worries when trying to deal with all the other issues I had. I know that brake dust is frustrating, but don't let it take away from your total enjoyment of your new vehicle if you like everything else about it....Ijust didn't want to take a chance with a replacement and that's why I changed brands and am totally happy with my choice.
raudy your right on target for sure, think about installing a set of kleen wheels dust sheilds on your unit they now are available in colors, i havent had any experience with the other types or fords replacement pads but its possible that even with the new pads of whatever brand brake dust could still be a situation even a minor one which definately would be an improvement. they tell me with theses shields there is no brake dust--guess ill find out real soon.
once again my reasoning for choosing the sheilds is i strongly beleive that the ford oem pads provide the best stopping ability
and i like that i just hate the filth that comes with them hopefully by the time i need pads this problem will be behind us all.
in response to tsdrallyer's post he is correct in that the mighty ford is america's work truck for sure no doubt about that and when they work hard they get dirty and ford trucks can be see building america everywhere they can take it they are tough units however expeditions even though designed on the f-150 chassis are not trucks they are overgrown stationwagons and expeditions generally dont go to work like the mighty ford trucks do-- i wouldnt even think about throwing a shovel in the back of old eddie--- cases of beer are even to dirty for me i had my friend at the trim shop make me a custom carpet mat in parchment to solve that problem!!!!!!! cheers
scroll thru prevoius posts on here and find the tsb number and give it to your dealer although i would think they know all about,
i think that is something your going to have to resovle between you and your dealer also low mileage probably will be in your favor as will good communication skills on your behalf----keep pounding them, make them cringe when they see you coming in be firm if you have too, price a hot mustang or something make their mouths drip on the possibily of a future sale.
however and ive posted this before even with the new pads you may still have some brake dust so if if you want no brake dust on your wheels think about installing the dust sheilds.
Originally posted by nickalbu On the bill it was listed as warrenty work so I expect Ford eventually paid for it.
Just because your paperwork says warranty, I would assume if the dealer doesn't submit it to Ford then the dealer is covering it (???).
I hope we can get a straight answer about those who are getting this under "warranty" because the argument is why are some getting warranty and others not. Squeeky wheel gets the grease?
I'm sitting in the waiting room of my dealer who has the internet available to customers
The service director spoke to Ford which said that they wouldn't pay for the pads. I felt like saying "No..Really? You told me that 2 weeks ago"
I said "would Carlton Massey be willing to do anything"
he said "I don't understand"
I said "like contribute to the pads"
he said after waiting "we could probably sell them for cost"
I asked him to look up what cost is....so I'll let everyone know once he comes back.
EDIT: He said like $190 for the parts at his cost. Looks like I won't be comming back to this dealer again. which is a shame when the Landscaping company my brother owns is looking for two new F250 trucks.
