I have called several auto parts dealers and they cannot find any ceramic pads for the expedition. Unless someone out there has found some, please post the brand and part number. Thanks.
Those rabestos you are inquiring about are not a ceramic pad. I am getting a refund today after I found that out on that exact part number. Am told you want ceramic pads to eliminate the brake dust issues.
My cousin works for a large auto parts distributor here in MA. He's looking into Akebono for ceramic pads...no pricing available yet, but as soon as I find out, I'll post it here. From what he tells me, they make pads for OEM, and have been from quite some time.
Anybody else know where to get the raybestos or any other brand pads. I'm assuming from previous posts they shohd be ceramic. "Raudy" said he ordered "Rabestos semi-metallic, ceramic quiet stops pads" from Kragen Auto. I have no idea where that is. Looking for something closer to Texas but will order from anywhere. Anyone?
Thanks,
Jorg, Round Rock, Texas
Kragen Auto is just a chain here in Nevada. Like Pep Boys etc. But again, if you want ceramic pads, and from this forum that is what we should replace with, the Rabestos is not and they do not make one yet for Expy's.
I installed aftermarket pads about 3-4 weeks ago. I had my personal mechanic install them.
At the time, he stated ceramic by Raybestos are not available. Semi Metallic were also not available..it sounds like they are now.
He found a brake pad made by Power Stop.
They were installed and there is no brake dust at all. I only replaced the front and was going to replace the rears but my dealer called me last week and offered to replace all 4 wheels at no charge. I haven't decided whether to do that because I am so happy with the aftermarket pads. And, I have lost confidence with Ford on the brake issue.
It appears from postings from people that have had the new pads installed that the brake dust issue is gone..
I think I will go talk to my mechanic about my dealer's offer and see what he thinks. My dealer has made it very clear that they are only doing this for me and it is not a warranty issue..
I'm taking my mechanic to lunch and bringing his 93 year old mother (office manager) chocolates since he did my brakes for free. I can also get the model number of the Power Stop Pads if anyone is interested.. I think they were under $50.
Alphascrew - I would be very interested in your part number as my Ford dealers will in no way put those new pads on under warranty and no way am I going to give them 230.00 for four. Thanks in advance.
Well I just finished having lunch with my mechanic and the surprises and frustration just don't seem to go away with my brake issues.
Here is what I found..
The brakes that are currently on my truck are in fact Power Stop. The reason I was not charged for them is Power Slot, the makers of slotted and vented rotors design the pads I have to work on slotted or vented rotors.
The engineer felt very confident that the pads would work without any problems. I asked what problems I may encounter and I was told that it may warp the rotors since they run a little hotter than normal pads. Again, I was assured that if any problems came up he would replace the rotors, that's how confident he was.
He wants me to continue to give him feedback and if I start to feel any pulsating to let him know.
Again, I have no brake dust at all..there is virtually no brake dust.
Since this is my wifes car, she will not notice the pulsating and it is a brand new car, I don't want any warranty issues..I will take up my dealer's offer to replace with factory pads.
Now..for aftermarket pads, my dealer has told me that some of his customers have chosen to go with pads from autozone. They have a ceramic pad available for 42.99 part number 934C made by Albany or a standard pad for $24.99 part number MKD934 also made by Albany. He has indicated that he has not had anyone return that these pads caused any problems.
How frustrating!!!

Just a little note...the 04 pads are the same as the 03 pads...I checked with my dealer today. Front pads run around 90 bucks.
I asked why the 230 price tag...he didn't have an answer (thought it was a little rediculous), but he did print the TSB for me Apparently, in order to change the front pads, the rear pads need to be changed as well in order to conform to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135 (whatever that reads).
I just think Ford is trying to recoupe the costs of redefining the brake pad composition...
I'm a true blue Ford man, have been all my life...but this is over the top for even me. Just like most of us.
alphascrew, From some 20 years of experience, I would venture that the increase in wear on the rotors with the aftermarket Power Stops will be next to nil. Perhaps the front rotors warp at 34 thousand miles instead of 35 thousand, but judging from the huge size of these components Ford chose to use, I seriously doubt you will ever have a problem. Every tech I know who has seen this brake system says the same thing. They either say "Wow!" or "Holy crap! Look at the size of that rotor". Its very possible that the original formula "messy" pad has superior stopping ability, but domestic car/truck owners are just not used to the mess just yet.
