Diesel is a better fuel source.

Gasoline: US gallon = 115,000 Btu

Diesel = US gallon = 130,500 Btu

Other sources have #2 up to 140,000 Btu, even bio to vegitable oil has more energy per gallon then regular gasoline.

Is that a plus, or a minus? And how much "processing" does it take for them to run the used oil from McD's?

And how cheap is french fry oil that's brand-new in a drum? And can you run it at -20F without a preheater?

I pass them up all the time. Does your HONDA run on gas? My Honda enduro does

Mine doesn't. And most never will.

On the flip side, how many times do you put additives in your tank to stop algae from growing among a whole host of other reasons, drain the water separator, or go to a public place and smell like diesel fuel?

But then, some people get off on offending strangers

I will say yes, Since french fry oil will burn cleaner regardless of what engine it is in.

Depends on how you look at it.

Processing is filtering it to get it clean so you invest some money up front like everything else. not sure on exactly because I have not done it but when i was looking into it you could set up a filtering station for about 1000 dollars or you could buy some companies set up for around 3000.

setting up the truck last time i looked ran around 3000 also.

4000-7000 dollar set up, now your running on potentially free fuel. Since most places throw the stuff out anyway they dont care who takes it but you have to get it before they put it into the Oil dumpster outside because then it does belong to someone.

Cons- upfront cost
filtering oil
have to collect oil
still have to run diesel to start and before shut downs.

Pros- Fuel is potentially free.
burns cleaner (now you can tell the hippy in the prius your truck
is cleaner then his Prius.)
low operating cost.
Vegi oil offers better lubrication then #2

short term you spend all the money long term fuel is free. Almost forgot your still required to pay tax on the fuel you use.

EDIT: biggest con of them all I forgot about. On Veggi oil you cannot soot out stupid drivers.

Never. I was draining water separators in my first years in California and never found any water. Gave up the procedure 20 years ago.
Diesel pumps are more common to have greasy handles, than gasoline ones, but that what rubber gloves are for. Some station have box of gloves attached on the pump.
Than let's talk how many people die, because the gasoline fumes ignited in the garage?
