..... I've heard, most US buyers don't like diesel cars because of the diesel car craze in the '70's. Those diesel cars were not good at all; broke down often, were slower than a flat turd rolling sideways, etc. ....
You are absolutely right. The "lobby" steering US citizens from economical cars into gas guzzlers is winning for couple of generations already.
It did allow for import of 44 HP diesel Volkswagens (I drove one, so I know how annoying it was) but did not allow import of its 75 HP turbo sibling.
It did allow for import of diesel Peugeot 405, but the very good 505 models come in very limited numbers. Those are still pampered even after 25 years on US roads by enthusiast.
We could buy the diesel engines in $50k luxury automobiles, but have never seen one in $12k econoboxes the rest of the World enjoy in big numbers.
So now in 21 Century we are forced to drive vehicles with technology from early 1980's. Even the 20 years old diesels designs in Sprinter vans are considered top of the line engine on this market.
Why don't we demand better?
BTW you want to bet $20 that we will never seen in this country diesel hybrids like this one? http://blog.roadandtrack.com/peugeot...a_rid=81149530
I pull about 8 times year for a total millage of about 4k towing and 4k just driving.
My 6.0 has left me on the side of the road, it spends a great deal of time in the shop. The maintains cost on a 6.0 is HUGE. Counting what insurance paid in the last year for truck repairs it comes close to 10k. The truck has 78k on it. Insurance is out next month.
So this year when it failed on the way to a family vacation I simply bought a new v10 King Ranch.
Everyone I know that has a 6.0 has had issues. I hear that some people do not have issues, but I have not meet any of them. I don't want to own a another diesel until they prove them selfs.
The V10 Pulls great, I have a 30 trailer and I get about 1-2 MPG less then my diesel did pulling.

Comparing the two trucks pulling the same trailer, over the same type of terrain, with the same driver is just not a valid comparison though. You have to compare them in different levels of trucks(1/2 ton vs 3/4), different brands (chevy vs ford equivalent), different trannys and completely different engines before it is an accurate comparison. In order for your comparison to be factual, you have to be comparing it to a truck that you have never even driven.
What sort of mileage do you get out of them empty/loaded? And how much weight do you tow?
Than he is comparing 7-8 years old diesel with new gasoline engine.
Technology makes huge changes lately on daily basis, even more in 7 years.
You want reliable and economical diesel? >>>> buy a Sprinter.

Not quite following you here.... The guy said he was comparing a 6.0 to a 3v v10. There were several years where both were in production at the same time, so a 6.0 vs a 3v v10 is a very valid comparison. It's not like he is comparing a 3v v10 to a 7.3 IDI.
Per my understating 6l was manufactured in 2003-2005 years, while King Ranch is last year adventure? I might not be precise, but there are few years between quoted trucks.

The 6.0 was in the 2003-2007 model trucks and the 3v v10 was in the 2005-2010 models. A 2010 v10 is identical to the 2005 model and in 2005(and 2006 and 2007) both the 6.0 and v10 were available, so a pretty even comparison if you ask me.

Sure enough, early 6.0s had problems. Ford and international pushed the release of the engine. Comeing out of 04 into 05 there was a vast improvement. 06 and 07 where great yrs for the 6.0. In your towing situation I don't see anything proving itself. To explain the cost and overhead. Come on really I spend $45 a year on fuelfilters $180 on oil changes. Which I use my old oil on the decks of trailers and fence post to treat the wood and metal. I can't right now quote how much the tranny cost but it don't matter cause it will you the same. So I spend what roughly $100 more than you on maintance. I can live w/ that. Its just this simple both versions get the job done. 1 is better suited for some situtions and drivers. I'm sorry you had such problems. I've had my share but I'm keeping mine. Mine has proven herself time again.
Why California sold beer is limited to 3.5% alcohol?
While I don't want to see this thread degenerate any further, your facts are once again wrong. Go to any store and find Bud Ice in the fridge, it's 5.5%. I think they save it for the V10 owners, though. Maybe that's why you can't find it. Ok, calm down, it was just a joke...

Obviously there are exception like everywhere in life. I was buying 9.2% Baltica beer here and trust me, I was in excellent mood after single bottle. From my checking -small local breweries and some malts are exempt.
But why don't you pay attention next time you by Heineken, Corona, Beck or basically any mass produced beer. Sold in CA they are not listing alcohol level. And after drinking 14 I can testify to low alcohol level.
So if you criticize other government for interventions into citizens life next time >>> start with looking into the mirror.
