I don't think anyone is selling anything. Most of us agree there are times a PSD is better and times a V10 is better. For instance, I rarely towed with my SD (somewhere around 1,000 miles a year). So high revving for that time didn't bother me. Also I work fairly close to home, a PSD would not even get warmed up on my daily commute, diesel don't really like frequent short trips like that.
Yes there are some that feel it is their lot in life to espouse whatever they're currently driving. Point is....a diesel has a lot more torque and will haul heavy loads better....
I don't buy the "Diesels don't like short trips" thing. Every time someone says that on any forum we get 100 people saying how their diesel gets driven 5000 miles a year and they've had no issues. I've got a few friends that drive diesels (ford and chevy) who only use them to tow 5-8 times a year. Neither one has had any problems with their trucks. I've read more reports on V10s that have hydro locked from sitting (leaking injectors, cracked water jacket) than any diesels. Again...I've owned a V10 for 4 years and I love the truck, but towing my fifth wheel with a 6.4 on the same roads I towed with the V10 is an amazing experience. The 6.4 just does a lot better job.

I remember the only logic conclusion the V10 is better only if you buy it to make it Garage Queen.
In all other uses there is no comparison to PSD.
My F450 was driven about 1000-2000 miles a year in first years of my ownership. Sure the water pump started to leak, but the truck had almost 200k on it, than the wiper motor made electrical fire, but now when I drive it a lot, the engine with 230k on it is bulletproof.
I do buy the diesel/short trips thing. My Dad has had his truck to the dealer several times to fix the converter warning light. It was his only vehicle, so it was used as such. On the last dealer visit, the service manager told him he needed to drive it longer because (his words) modern diesels need to be fully warmed up every trip, and a quick trip to the corner store is hard on the engine and support systems. His '01 never had that trouble (no emissions crap) but still it took a long time for the heater to work, which indicates low engine temp. But I'm not about to pretend that my beloved V10 is as stout as a diesel when it comes time to work HARD. Will it pull? Very well. Is it a pleasure to drive everyday? Yep. How's the MPG? Better then the 6.4 we have at work in the same conditions. But still, if I towed heavy loads with regularity and if I had the money, I'd probably get a stinking diesel. But as it is, I get a big grin everytime I see a Ford diesel on the flatbed around here, because I knopw that for me and my situation, I made the right choice. Your experience may vary...
Sorry, I meant tgreening and quoted you by mistake.
What, so the guy WITH a 3V V10 who says it can't hang with a 6.4 isn't good enough for you? you have to find someone who doesn't own one to ask the same old tired "Have you ever....?" question?

My PS was on flatbed once. .. .with broken differential...
Have you ever hear old wisdom "only rich people can really afford to buy cheap stuff"?

And lets see.... My '04 6.0 was driven a TOTAL of 34k miles, ate an egr cooler, turbo X 2, a set of injectors, and in the end a headgasket caused it to hydrolock making it a useless waste of space. It was nice when it ran....... But after that I'll never own any diesel again.

Have you ever heard the expression, "beating a dead horse"? We all know full well the 7.3 is a proven, yet underpowered motor. There isn't one emissions-era diesel I feel is a good long-term motor. To see who's right, check back in 10 years and tell me who is bragging about their 6.0, 6.4 or 6.7 or whatever Ford comes out with next year to replace the current "big thing". New diesels are like microwave ovens, buy 'em, use 'em, throw 'em out when they're done because it costs more to fix than it would to buy a new one.
Becuase it came from Ford rather than Navistar I think the 6.7 has the ability to not be like the 6.0/6.4. As far as I know non have failed yet, and the 6.4 was already showing problems after it had been sold this long.
