There's a few in my Gallery/Garage thing in my profile, if I had a penny for every one of my failed attempts to post a photo in a thread, I could afford enough gas for a road trip. haha
Ford only made the crew cab 4wd in a shortbed and the longbed only came in the 2wd. Some say the 4wd longbed was made for the govt and railroad but I believe they were sent to another company to get stretched to be a 4wd longbed.
Oldfordcrewcabs.com is a great place to find one. They are always getting posted there.
New Member here, love the Forum! And mutual enthusiasm for the four door fords! I've wanted a crew cab since high school. A classmates dad had a lifted crew cab that started my obsession. Some 20++ years ago. After a couple other vehicle builds over the years the opportunity arose to save a 78 f800 crew and a 74? F600 4x4 from the clutches of the crusher! Both are in tuff shape but between the two and possibly a third parts truck on the way I think I'll be able to build one complete truck. I hope to let these trucks retire with a life of parades and sunny Beach days on the Beaches of Cape Cod!
I wanted to ask for help from you guys as to some direction and planing of this Build. ( interchangeability of things, cabs, frames running gear etc...) My last ford was a 76 Ranchero w/ cobra jet heads. Again that was senior year in high school haven't touched a ford since.
My rough plan was to end up with a 4x4 crew cab with large tires. 46" ?? Remember think Parades!
Hey, its been awhile since I've been on here guys so bear with me for a bit. Im currently building my 76 crew cab 4x4. And got a couple questions. I'm workin on puttin a 12 valve cummins in it right now with 75 over horse injectors, custom ground fuel plate. And an HX 40 turbo. but my real question is has anyone seen tow mirrors off a 2nd gen dodge put on an old crew?? or even just any 73-79 ford?? and my other question would be if they make AutoMeter aftermarket gauges for the old ford??? Any feedback would be awesome thanks guys
1st - nice motor choice.
2nd - let me know if you find pics of the mirrors you are looking at on a dentside. I'm planning on doing the Dodge/Ram tow mirrors that fold up. I think they are off the 3rd gen Dodge CTD, not the 2nd Gen though. I've seen them on an 80-96 truck (think it was a '94 but can't recall for sure), but I haven't seen them on a 70's truck yet.
Oh and on the long bed/short bed deal, in case anyone is still unclear they DID make a 2wd, short bed crew in the 70's, but NOT a long bed, 4wd crew.
Crews were available from the factory in 2wd or 4wd short bed or 2wd long bed.
The posts on the bed length were reading kinda like they didn't do 2wd short beds to me. Sorry if everyone else was already getting that.
