Is it pretty common for the heater cores to go bad?
These trucks are 25 years old or more. Why risk it for $25 and an hour of time? This is like the high side PS line, it will fail.
Do it around the time you flush the cooling system, you are going to be in there anyway.

I have a small oil leak from the font cover gasket. Never enough to have it drip, but its completely caked in oil. From what I have read, the only successful way too fix this is to pull the motor, because I will have to drop the oil pan, and will never get it sealed again with the motor in the truck. So, would it be worth it to take the time to pull the motor, put it on a stand, and do everything with the motor out? Seems that pulling the motor would make every part of this easier, and allow me to fix the front cover leak, as well as buy that fancy dip stick fix thing. But part of me also says that if I am pulling the motor, I should pull the heads and stud it as well as new head gaskets. So basically, pulling the motor just digs the rabbit hole deeper.
I really need to finish repainting my camper so I can sell it. Then I can afford to actually do all of this haha
If you pull the long block, have a valve job done. They are toast by now. I would do that before the HPOP if on a budget. Could also drop the push rods and do ARP head studs. Just depends on budget and time down.

At this point the budget is blown and down time is more than I would like. But I have another truck to drive while it is down, and can come up with the funds to do whatever it takes. I really just want to do this one time and be set for several years to come. If that means complete rebuild, then I am willing to go that route. I am heavily leaning towards pulling the motor and getting a motorcraft overhaul kit. The motor does not need this, but to fix all of its issues, I have to pull it, and I would prefer to be down an extra month and spend an extra couple thousand over doing all that work just to pull the motor again in a year or two. I personally don't have any real experience rebuilding a motor, but I would be taking my time and researching every step of the way. Motor, Trans, and Tcase are pretty much the only pieces of a vehicle I have never torn down and rebuilt. I will be doing whatever work (minus any machining) myself, so I guess I really just need to look into what all I would need done by others and what misc other parts I would need. I figure I would do the following, and please let me know if any parts are a waste of time.
Water Pump
PS Pump
Front Cover and Gasket
Alternator
HPOP
LPOP
Valve Springs
Valve Seals
SD UVCH
Heater Core
Motorcraft Overhaul Kit
ARP Head Studs
Head Gasket
Valve Job
Cam Shafts
Hybrid Injectors (maybe)
Push Rods
Dip Stick Fix
Well the thought of doing it all at once was short lived. Truck wouldn’t start at all trying to leave work. Tried again 30 mins later and it fired after a few attempts. CNC stage 2 HPOP is on order. Guess I’ll do that and tackle everything else I decide is worth it at a later date hah
If we are spending your cash, do 205/30s. Seem to be boss injectors.
Odd why would not light. Is it cranking fast enough?
it seemed to be cranking full speed, just never fired. Acted like it wanted to a couple times. I cranked it for about 6-7 seconds and then waited a couple minutes and tried again 3-4 times

Well they already printed a shipping label and changed my order status to shipped. Looks like I'll probably get it some time next week. Just gotta stick the truck in the garage and take the old pump out so I'm ready when it arrives
Sweet. I love package delivery day. Unless its fedex, then it'll be a day or 3 later before it arrives.
No kidding... I had to schedule a delivery for a specific time with FedEx freight to get the roof hatches for my current project at work. The appointment was in the afternoon yesterday. Needless to say, I still don't have my roof hatches, and I got to spend 30 minutes on hold with them today so that I could reschedule it.
