Also, found out that one of my neighbors is a diesel mechanic who loves 7.3s. When I told him I was going to do a LPOP and water pump he said to do a front cover as well due to the LPOP wearing on the front cover, so he’s going to help me do a full rebuild this fall, because if I’m pulling the motor, it’s getting rebuilt haha
HA. Fuzzy's made it to CO? They started here in Ft Worth by TCU around 02. Used to eat there after getting partied out on weekends!
Looks like wheel cyl to me also.
oh yeah I’ve been eating fuzzys out here for years haha. Found out that I lost my lug nut key in the move, so I was unable to rotate and check out that corner today. Feeling the backing plate, it is covered in gear oil though
It does. Not sure exactly how much. This was my first trans fluid change since I bought the truck, so I’m not sure how much fluid the pan usually holds, but it took almost 10 quarts to fill back up
So I have a laundry list of parts I am going to replace when I rebuild the motor. Is there anything in particular that you guys think should be changed or at least though about whenever the engine is torn down? I'm searching around and have already found some little things like welded oil jets. Also, what are peoples thoughts on camshafts? Any reason to go to an aftermarket cam? Not trying to go crazy with the build, but I am highly considering going to 180/30 or 205/30 injectors and upgrading to a kc300x stage 2 turbo while I am doing all this crap
A port and polish on the heads would be a huge upgrade I'd you could get it done correctly. These heads flow like crap.
There is also a weld in dipstick fix for way cheaper than the Strictly Diesel mount. I think it's around 60 bucks on CPAddict.
Factoring in the roughly $700 for ARP head studs and connecting rod bolts, I'm looking at roughly $6,300 plus any costs for machine work for the heads and block, so the difference between $5600 and $6300 probably isn't worth saving to not have ARP fasteners. I'll have to search around for reputable shops for any machine work. If you hear of anyone on the front range that is trustworthy let me know! If I do end up going with the better turbo and bigger sticks, I'll be in the $9,000+ range....
