Oh I know it's not the first step in this saga. Just meant moving forward from where we are now I would start with the pump since you already got one on the way.
I have removed and cleaned out the tank, removed a brand new 33972 wix filter, Installed the Baldwin BF1212 pre-pump filter with 30r9 fuel line from tank to pump, Threw out the brand new Napa gold fuel filter and replaced with ford fuel bowl filter, brand new ford FPR assembly.
Pump arrives today and tonight it will be installed. If that doesn't fix my issue then the Riff Raff FRx will be removed. If not fixed after that then remaining fuel line will be replaced.
that was a superior move, the tiny Wix was too small, both in Size and Micron rating.
the Baldwin is Micron Rating: 4 Nominal; 20 Absolute
equal to my Wix 24006 which is 10 micron, and the same size case.
Fuel pump is a 45 minute job to swap out when it’s fresh in your head.
No Change in FP. FRx is coming out.
My fuel pressure issues have stayed away since removing the FRx and installing the cheap $20 kit from Amazon when I was fighting my issue. I didn’t have a bad tank of fuel like you did though.

did you do JIC caps on the head fittings or go back to NPT plugs?
I went back to the NPT plugs. I actually need to remove them and reinstall with sealant as I didn’t the first time.
Doing those NPT plugs more than once would be one of the least pleasurable jobs I can imagine.
I went with 1/4” JIC caps because I wasn’t really convinced that the FRx was the issue, and it was the easy way out.
This was confirmed after the test drive with no change. I have since installed the black spring and now FP sits at 62ish and drops to around 50 under heavy load.
Did notice right away that the engine is noisier and not as responsive without the FRx. It’s not snake oil. That thing really does as advertised.
Starting to question the fuel pressure gauge itself as the cause of my concerns, however it has always showed a delta in pressure and just since the rusty fuel up has it been a drastic delta.
Pressure is okay until more fuel is demanded by the injectors. That is a classic symptom of a flow restriction somewhere between the fuel pump's output and your fuel pressure sensor.
Have you looked at the check valve assembly in the fuel bowl for a partial restriction? I had it fail on mine one time and truck would do much more then idle. I removed all the guts out of it and it will never happen again.

I've heard of the fuel pressure on these trucks killing fuel pressure sender units. Something about the pulses of it or something. So much so that they sell a "snubber" to combat it. Your running out of parts to fire in the cannon. lol
There is only one thing left in the entire fuel delivery system that hasn't been changed.
That damned flex hose between fuel pump and fuel bowl. Right now I'm trying to decide if I replace everything from pump to bowl with 30r9, or just the flex line.

Since the tank of rusty fuel was introduced the delta between idle and heavy demand has been constant at 15lbs. This delta follows each different spring installed in the FPR ( silver, gold and black ). As well the pressure rating for each spring is below the nominal value by about 8lbs.
Prior to the rusty tank the delta was around 5lbs with the nominal on gold spring @ 58lbs.
Black spring 70lbs = 62lbs
Gold 60lbs = 53
Silver 55lbs = 48
KOEO and fuel pressure climbs quickly to 80% value then slowly climbs to reach peak value. KOER is about the same.
All this to say that I "think" the fuel pressure gauge it tracking true. Going to confirm.
For now I have the black spring installed and can maintain a safe fuel pressure for the injectors.
