Starting Point
I’m leery about the single centre fastener for clamping pressure to seal the O-ring to the tank, but see that is what you have installed. Also has to have a drain plug for periodic let’s get the crap out of the bottom of the tank.
If I go this route, would also like to install a glass ( read clear )water separator as a pre filter so that I can visually check to see what is going into the filter.
I don’t know if I’m thinking overkill, but I don’t want to chase this down again the next time I choose the wrong fuel station.
it is supplied with the FASS fuel system if that makes any difference.
good choice, it is solid as a rock...
you have to Torque the Center bolt to 17 ft lbs, IIRC
just noticed that link is bad, this one is good.
I did NOT want the Return link sump kit, why mess with that?
the Factory Return Line works just fine, if it ain't broke, don't go Fixing Something That Ain't Broke.
oh,
do you see that tiny little silver thing to the left of the Center Bolt?
that is a Drain hole, it takes an Allen Wrench to remove it.
but you got to use a good sealer on it, mine leaked the 1st time, even with the proper sealant.....

.
They actually had to cut a hole in your skid plate to install that sump. Do you know what they did with the original fuel feed line. Where did they plug it off?
Thanks for that link John.
If I ever decide to change my mind and go to a sump style at least I already have enough 30r9 hose. 10feet cost me $76.00. I about choked when he told me but had already cut the length off the spool.
Waiting on the fuel filter kit, and the FPR. Tomorrow I’ll finish up on the tank install. It’s back in but still have the fill, and vent hose to install. Was contemplating pulling the fuel bowl to thoroughly clean before the FPR kit but think I’m gonna save a few hrs and leave it in place.
Read on a thread (Powerstroke Nation) that there is actually a screen inside the fuel pump. Guy said it non serviceable and can plug with larger debris and cause low FP even though the “pump” is still working properly. Be damned if I can find it again to re-read and link here for future reference.
At any rate I’m going to backflush the fuel pump and see what comes out of it. Figure what the hell… it can’t hurt, can it?

Wired backwards. I LIKE it. Gonna give it a shot. I was going to use air from the fuel bowl but this sound much easier.
Use it as a transfer pump in reverse to flush it out.
Woke up to pouring rain so waiting for the puddles in the driveway to drain before headed outside. I opted to keep the truck outside for this job.
But is there a real reason to not run it backwards?

I wonder how many years of people’s lives were wasted playing songs backwards listening for hidden messages.
IMO there are enough negative songs when you play them the right way.
the Skid Plate hole, was cut by my son, using a brand new Ryobi tiny little grinder, with the thinnest wheel available.
the Ryobi is great for that work, as it has a Depth Gauge setting to prevent it from going too deep and ruining the Plastic gas tank.
there is about a 1/4 inch spacing between the tank and the Skid plate.
PJ cut the OEM fuel line just aft of the Fuel Pump, and ran the new all rubber fuel hose direct to the pump suction line, I bought special fuel line hose clamps, Worm Gear clamps are not good enough, they leak, and we can prove it.
This is the OEM Return Line, it worked for 20+ years, we left it as it, why reinvent the wheel?
Return line worked for 20+ years, why change it? : :
this is where the hole was cut in the skid plate : :
the hole saw drill bit, cut the hole in the tank,
it drained diesel for over 20 minutes
Sump position is directly inside that circle. : :
this is a better view of the Sump and the line we used, the Sump uses a 1/2" fitting, we reduced that to 5/16" for the fuel line to the pump.
Have the FPR and the screw on style filter and base.
Couldn’t find a Racor PS 120-02 that was reasonably priced, and readily available. Figure I will go to a Baldwin or a Donaldson for the next filter. This one is rated as a 2 micron, and I’m going to leave the brand new Wix 33972 in line as well.
Yesterday was a forced day of rest. Read, the wife wanted time with me and I had to choose between her or the truck. Happy wife happy life.
Tomorrow is the backflush on the pump and figuring out the mounting bracket for the filter. Have to source some 1/2 to 5/16 barbed fittings for the filter mount as well.
